High Mileage Transmission Service

I just bought a 2007 Tundra that has 220000miles on and the automatic transmission has never been serviced. It is running and shifting fine, but I don't know if I should flush and service the transmission with that many miles on it. Any advice?

 

I would leave it alone.

If you really have the itch, try a drain and fill. Least intrusive way first.

 

Do a drain and fill every, or every other oil change. It'll slowly flush the old fluid out, and continuously keep fresh fluid circulating.

 

Unless you have service records that the truck has had transmission flushes at the reccommended intervals don't do it. We make customers sign waivers on high mileage vehicles before service to protect ourselves.

 

Take it to a toyota dealership. Its less then $200 Canadian to have the trans fluid changed and they probably have a little more knowledge then the internet experts.

 

I had the dealer perform a drain and fill at about 275k... I have no idea what was done to the transmission prior to tat because there are no service records for the first 270,000 miles driven. My truck had an occasional torque converter shudder before I had it serviced, it still has a shudder so I changed how I drive and the shudder has not returned.

In your case, if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

 

I would drain and fill, just make sure you look up the proper procedure for filling to the correct level.
I would be interested in an oil analysis of the old fluid with that many miles.
