I had hoped to upgrade my suspension and tires today but I had to wait for the 1st of this year to pull the trigger. I went ahead and ordered the new larger tires and proceeded to order my new struts. For anyone that is looking for the Bilstein 6112 struts they will not be available till hopefully March. S I had to go back and cancel the tires. I really wanted to this mod 1st, I hope I have the patients to wait 2 more months if they will be available then.

You can stay on top of it with vendors like boss offroad for 6112s to come in. Might get lucky

I just canceled my 6112 order from Wheelers and ordered Ironman. I’m pretty excited actually as everything I have read about Ironman sounds really promising.

I spent a few hours today and no luck with anyone. One vender told me he had 45 orders waiting and probably wouldn't see anything till after March. This is pretty messed up.

I would recommended Ironman4x4 or Dobinsons kit. Much better than bilstein

I don't think Dobinsons makes a strut for 3rd gen.

They do! They have a few spring options for us. I have the 778s which gave me right at 3” of lift.

I like the Dobinsons for the fact that the spring sets the lift height, rather than an adjustable clip. When I finally make the move to lift, thats what I will be going with.

What did you go with for the rear struts and who did you get them from?

I’m currently running 6112s set at 1.9” and rear 5160s (no rear lift). I’ve ran them for a few years and really like them. Hard to describe, but the seat-of-the-pants ride is much better than stock both on and off-road (light off-roading). In my opinion, the fact that 6112s are 2.5” in diameter makes them a great buy for their price, which is probably why they’re occasionally sold out from time to time.

I had never heard of Ironman until fairly recently. I seriously considered them now that it’s approaching the time to replace the 6112s. I was intrigued by the foam cell technology and looked into it a bit. From what I understand, foam cells inherently require a wider diameter shock body.

It seems like the US-based Landcruiser crowd in some of the forums (ih8mud.com, for example) really likes them. But I did come across this video, apparently from a shop in India, concerning a broken (collapsed, as opposed to leaking) Ironman shock:

    https://youtu.be/EwfCEFfTryc

I’ve personally never experienced a broken/collapsed shock, but I’m guessing most every shock brand has experienced broken shocks. So I wouldn’t take that one video as a definitive indication of Ironman’s quality and durability (might’ve been a fluke). They look like quality parts in my opinion, though.

There are a few posts on here of OEM Bilstein lower stems breaking, but I believe they’ve done so when used with spacers up top. While I’ve read a few instances of leaking 6112s, I don’t remember reading of any actually breaking/collapsing, though.

Anyway, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy 6112s again, but I decided to go another route and get rebuildable Fox 2.5s. I’ll keep the 6112s as spares for when I take the Fox off to rebuild. As for the Ironman’s, I’m sure they’re good, too, but they’re relatively newer than the 6112s. They’re priced competitively, though, which is also good.

I ordered from Wheelers in November. Still waiting, but customer service gave me an update of two shipments coming in the middle and end of this month. I hope that holds true, spring will be here before I know and that's when I want my suspension and wheels installed!

I went with the Dobinsons rear shocks..made a full kit out of it. There is a member on here @crikeymike , message him and he can point you in the right direction.

Your better off Bilstein's are way overrated especially the 6112’s.

Just spoke with Wheelers, since I cancelled my order for personal reasons. For anyone who has a current order with them it looks like they will receive their 6112/5160 stock in 2 weeks.

I ran Ole Man Emu struts on my 94 LC and it literally rode like a Cadillac even in the woods. with all the mods I had on the LC everyone was impressed with the ride. I never had a problem with them and they held up like a champ.

I feel your pain. I really wanted the 6112 set up so I can do a full lift all around for under 1500 but since they aren't available I must have bounced between so many other setups. What about the Toytec/Eibach setup? price is right but is that a cheap set up? Or even RC? you read enough threads here and the number of opinions is overwhelming.

I'm lookong to get some kings from @AccuTune Offroad shortly. I went the cheap route with 5100's and have been left disappointed. This is my 3rd truck with 5100's and on this truck they r just not well suited. I'm just going to go all out and be done with, plus accutune can custom valve them to your liking. Buy once cry once.

I usually agree with that buy once thing but convincing the wife when this is our 3rd vehicle is not always easy. Don't get me wrong, I can do it without her, but there's another saying - happy wife, happy life...
