I am in need of some advice. I am about 500 miles away from home, and today I noticed oil leaking from my front passenger side axle. I took a look at everything, and it was the axle clamp that actually broke, leading to oil everywhere. The boot is still in perfect shape. I am thinking I can just replace the clamp, but my question is what fluid leaks from the front axles?
    Transmission or gear oil?

Theoretically, I can fix the clamp and then refill the oil (if gear oil) to make sure everything is back in working order, right? Or do you all recommend that I get the axle replaced? I do have a new one ready to be put in.

The boot contains a grease to lube the C/V joints. If you're certain that the leaking is coming from just the boot, you can squeeze some new grease in there, clean the surfaces up real good, then install a new clamp. Good luck.
