Love my 2016 double cab TRD off road package, it is after all the fastest color Inferno. However, my family is outgrowing it and I'm looking to get into a Crewmax. I would like to get a used one but in my area clean low mileage Tundra is non existent so I have been pricing some new ones and currently have two dealers bidding for my business.

It's coming down to a Crewmax TRD Sport in Magnetic Gray but I'm conflicted for the reasons below.

Dealer A is a bigger dealer but didn't really get competitive until I started working with a different dealer. They are offering a somewhat lower price of 43250 but have to drive to pull the truck from another dealers stock 300 miles away which I'm not a fan of. The truck has a few more add on accessories, everything dealer B has plus bed lights and electric locking tailgate. They are offering me 24000 on my current truck which is fair but I've got better offers from non Toyota dealers and they want me to put a deposit down on the truck without being certain they can pull it from the other dealers stock. I also have a 250 dollar off coupon specific from this dealer that I've not brought up to them for obvious reasons.

Dealer B is a smaller dealer and slightly farther away but were the first to really want to make a deal, they have the truck in Transit on a carrier and will have practically no miles on it and have worked the cost down to 43500 based on Dealer A stating they would beat them. Supposedly will be in stock this week. Not sure what they'd give me on trade just yet, they won't give me an offer until I drive out to see them. Thinking of taking a chance on this one just to see if they would offer me more on my trade.

In my head the time is ticking to get this done before the new year because I believe the value of my truck will drop, could be wrong though.

I want to go with Dealer B because they've been super helpful through this but the slightly lower spec truck for more is conflicting plus no coupon. I have a feeling that Dealer A wouldn't honor the coupon because they claim that they are losing 1500.

Man, car buying is stressful and could use some advice.

I would try Dealer B first and see how it pans out for you. You can always go back to Dealer A afterwards.

The bed lighting and locking tailgate are things you can add after . I get it though , it’s hard to pay out slightly more money for a truck with fewer options . I’d go with dealer B just on principle since dealer a is lying to you . If dealer A is larger than dealer B than they should be able to sell a truck for less without losing any money .

I would be willing to pay ~$500 extra (if I looked at your numbers correctly) to support a small dealership if they're honest and good to work with. Could also consider trying to sell your truck privately if you don't like what they're offering. $24k sounds a bit low for a 2016 to me but you didn't mention how many miles it has or what kind of condition it's in.

I’ve always negotiated the purchase as if I’m buying outright to get the dealers as low as they’ll go. Then I add the “what if” I were to trade? That’s another whole negotiation point though.

I typically have a carmax or some other quote in my back pocket so I know what’s realistic. If you have a higher quote from a Non-Toyota dealer, you’re set!

In TX we have a healthy sales tax, so the trade in saves money on sales tax on the purchase.

    Good luck!

Yeah, I wanna go with Dealer B but we will see what they say on my current trucks value. My current one is only just getting broken in at 93k. I also forgot to mention that I had gone to a local Ram dealer to look at a practically new 2020 Tundra on the pre owned lot but it was a TSS package, they had offered me 25750 but only have that in a text message nothing on paper. Dealer A says they won't budge on the trade in value because they "could buy a similar truck to yours with the amount of mileage you have at wholesale for the amount we are offering you". Sounds like some BS and I know that color doesn't necessarily increase the value of a truck but good luck finding an inferno double cab TRD package because the Pro colors are always limited run. I also tried to explain that this other dealer is offering me 25750 and they tried to sell me on well they are a ram dealer, they have dealer cash that dodge gives them to help sell cars. Sounds like a crock to me, no way dodge is giving their dealers an allowance to help sell pre owned cars from other brands.

I agree. 26 seems very low. But KBB should answer that for you if you plug in your vehicle info.

I would go with Dealer B, because Dealer A doesn't sound so truthful, they will make most of their money on service & maintenance anyway.

I'd go dealer B as well. Stand up folks get my business even if it costs more. They might even honor that competitors coupon if you ask them.

Get a trade in offer from Carvana and Vroom. I did it out of curiosity and got a nice offer from Vroom. Not enough to make me take it but more than I paid. Might give you some more ammo for either deal.

Ask Dealer B give you 24.5k for your truck to make the deal happen. If not, tell them to tint the windows or give you all weather mats or something to make up some of that 250-500 dollar difference at dealer A.

I think you can make it happen at Dealer B and there are many ways to get 500 off without taking it off the bottom line.

Thanks everyone for the sound advice, I will see what can be worked out at dealer B, just worried on the timeline of all this and the toyotathon promotion rolling off because we couldn't get the deal in place in time.

It's all pretty stressful, did I mention I hate car buying haha.

What's y'all's opinion on the deal. Here is the pre sell sheet on Dealer B's truck. Again it looks like it MSRP's for 47750 and we have negotiated that down to 43500. Think I saw someone else in another buying thread saying to not accept anything higher than 15 percent off sticker which in theory brings this one down to 40587.

That theory may normally be true but this last year has been chaos in the entire auto industry from prices paid for trade ins and used cars to the price of new cars. So the 15 percent rule may be a little skewed this year due to availability and demand.

I also think 15% off is pretty optimistic for Toyota. 7-11% would be more in line with what folks usually get from them.

    Just for recent reference.
Traded my 13 SR5 Crewmax, 98700 miles the last week of October for a 21 SR5 Crewmax Trail Edition.
Dealer gave me 23850. They had it on their lot for 3 weeks, sold it for 25215.

Pull some values on your truck from KBB, NADA, and Car Fax. Otherwise you’re just guessing.

Had a buddy who works a GM dealership run the numbers on my truck and he said they use NADA, Black Book, and also check what the pricing is for comparable vehicles in a 300 mile radius and knowing that I'm not buying anything from them give me all the info on my trucks value ranging from 24k up to 27 in competitive markets. And that 24 would be the lowest and more than likely what they would have to buy the vehicle at to have their 10 percent markup. He stated that they have to be super competitive in their pricing just to get people to drive out and buy from them so I believe what he's saying and that he's not trying to get one over on me.

Drive to dealer B. You won't know what they will give you till you show up. Until then you are just worrying about what ifs.

Looks like I will be the new owner of a brand new sport at the end of the week and it was from Dealer B, was able to work out most of the details and as it sets they were able to match the other dealers offer on the truck for 43250, they are only willing to do 24000 on my truck on trade at this time but where they made up for it was through financing through a local credit union instead of toyota financial which Dealer A wouldn't have done. They were able to do a 84 month note at 3.09% which is insane. Now before I get crap for financing for 84 months, I know its not ideal, however I plan on keeping this truck for the long haul so I am not too stuck on it and with my trade and down payment I won't be upside down a day of ownership on this truck.

I hate car buying but it feels so good to get an amazing deal and actually have a salesman work to get you the lowest payment and purchase price. If any of you guys live in Arkansas, I highly suggest working with Dalton at Caldwell Toyota in Conway. And Dalton, I know you drive a Tundra, if you happen to be a member of this forum, thanks again!

Just got the call, my new Tundra is on the carrier and will be delivered overnight and ready for me tomorrow, let the modding plans begin!

Out of the gate need to get floor liners and tonneau cover

Floor liners, toss up over to go cheap and get some off brand ones like Gator or the Husky Liner X-act Contours at 136 and 220 respectively.

Tonneau covers, anybody have any experience with the MaxMate or Tyger T1 Soft Roll Up cover, looks to be the same but a 10 dollar cost difference
