Took truck to dealer today for oil change and tire rotation.

Drove off afterwards and heard a thumping noise. Drove back to dealer and they said the sticky metal pieces used to balance tires were hitting calipers. They took them off and asked me to go back tomorrow so they can balance and fix the metal balance pieces.

Drove 45min home and noticed oil in the skid plate. As I looked around I noticed something had sprayed down the underside of the truck as I drove. Looking closer, I saw that ( i think) the lower control arm on passenger side was leaking.

What is that bolt used for and why would it be leaking? there is oil on the dipstick and the brake fluid was full.

Also the tire had fluid on it like it leaked straight down while it was parked.20201223_204227.jpg 20201223_173611.jpg

    Thanks

That just looks like a typical sloppy stealership oil change, you're better off just changing the oil yourself.

Lower control arm oil. Should be able to go to Auto Zone and get some more.

I agree with Jay, looks like a crap oil change clean up.

Did you feel the fluid? Did it look like oil on your skin? Give it a sniff test? See what kind of fluid it is. That will narrow where it’s coming from or came from.

@2point5seconds the bolt you have circled is your lower shock bolt. Agree with the others, super sloppy oil change.

The skid plate was definitely oil. Smelled like it. Wasn't brake fluid. Didn't smell like it. The fluid on the lower control arm didn't really smell like oil or brake fluid.

Is it usual that they would drain the fluid in the LCA?

That was another thing I looked at. But they seemed fine. No leaking from them

Could be from the tire balance if they had to spin the rubber they would have put fluid back in it.

Gotta admit that the position of the oil on the Lower Control Arm looks like there's fluid leaking from that bolt. Ended up being what everyone was saying earlier. Rookie mistake for the oil change. They said the tech emptied the old oil into a bucket hanging from the LCA and splashed up everywhere. I haven't looked at it, but they said they cleaned it up. Thanks everyone for their input into this.

I'm just glad Auto Zone gives a Military Discount. LOL
