Bent horns

I am looking at and considering buying a clean 130k 2002 4x4 trd. But the owner rear ended another vehicle bending the horns and moving stuff around a little...Is 4K too much $ is this something I can fix with Moderate welding and body skills

 

That's not repairable, needs a new frame.

If your gonna use it for a farm truck or something like that, then go for it. Otherwise I would pass

No, not for $4k. Maybe $1500 if its for a farm or just an off road rig that you don't care about much, or even a parts truck. And damn, that was a beautiful truck.

edit- hard to tell what we aren't seeing but how does the frame look behind that point? You would have to cut that section off, can't tell how far back the damage goes. If it stops before the coil buckets then new front end of the frame could be fabricated but might not be great in an accident.

There are other trucks without this problem in fairly close price ranges, I would look elsewhere.

I'm perplexed by how the frame damage is so severe while the front bumper isn't that bad. It's like the frame absorbed all the impact.

 

Maybe the car slid under the bumper . . . or hit a lower stationary object?

I looked at A tundra 03 last winter that spun o icy overpass and was same way but he only wanted 1 k... everytning above bumper was fine rear corner was a little fungo too

Question is, how is the rest of the frame aligned? Would have to get it on a frame table and check for square. Bent horns may only be the visible part. If the frame is straight overall, You could straighten, reweld and reinforce the front protruding frame sections. That wouldn't bother me. Price needs to be cheaper for a "totaled vehicle" though. Relatively low miles and otherwise good condition.

 

How's that 'awning' over the rear slider?! . . . I'd sell hot dogs/ burgers out of that thing !!!!! Rad!

 

Forget and leave your slider open a couple inches before a rainstorm and you'll appreciate it.

So ... I found a 2000, ext cab, v8, 2wd, w a replacement frame in nice condition at a local salvage emporium. Do you know or does anybody know whether the frame will serve this 2002, ext cab w 4wd ? (2002 Frame is diamond w multiple distortions got it to a frame guy to measure up)...

I don't know what you all are afraid of.

That's an easy fix for a frame shop.

All my Toyotas have been front end crash, salvage titled trucks . I fix and drive them.
It's a 18 year old truck! Who gives a shit if it was in in an accident. Fix it and drive it. You know going in to the deal that it does not have the safety features of a new truck. Wear your seatbelt.

Take those pics to a frame shop and ask if they can give you a ball park estimate. I bet it's less than $500.

Hint: if they want the work, leave a $100 bill on the counter. Let them know you are buying lunch. You just went to the front of the line buying lunch for them.
