The Lexus is the same. I really don't get it, but I guess there are people who like the looks of this.

That rendering is not my cup of tea. Pontiac Aztek-esque. 1/2 tons IMO are all sort of the same now. If I didn't need the extra payload of towing ability, I don't see why you'd get another gasser half ton, that is now starting to look more like the size of a Ridgeline.

Funny man...older you get, the more shit recycles itself. People on forums bitch hysterically about the looks of EVERY rendering or new model that comes out. “Its a copy of the chevy!!&@@!!. Its an F150!!@@@...its looks like a fish!!!&@@...it doesnt have 12 gears!!&@@“

And thennnnn...its on the show room floor, it grows on you, no longer looks like a fish and we give them $60k.

Good show to watch boys! Carry on

I just really hope they dont feel inspired to make the rear end look like this!

I saw one on the road the other day and had a bad reaction to the oddness of the visual.

What did a Sienna ever do to deserve this?

Mine would be lower it and paint it a decent colour. Maybe put a bit of chrome into the front end.

So a couple things jumped out in that picture....

    1. I actually think it is pretty sharp!
    2. Lets assume tat is a real picture and not photoshopped too much for a second.... If you look under the bed, you can not see a rear pumpkin/gear center housing. Makes me believe it really is an independent suspension with no live axle anymore or something to that extent.

I was referencing the post directly above mine-- with the Sienna. But yes, all Toyota products have gone for the huge grille, strange lines MO.

A lot of these responses are funny and I absolutely love this thread just for the commentary alone.

A few things we know for sure:

Toyota knows what they are doing. They do great market research and the tundra is made for the North American market, they won’t bastardize it to the point of hurting sales.

Toyota is a tight ship, they only let info out as they please. Everything released so far has been purposeful.

They will succeed in strengthening the pitfalls of the last tundra (gas mileage, rear suspension, etc).

My hopes: twin turbo v6 with or without hybrid tech, 5 link rear which would make the rear of the frame have to be boxed, and updated tech. I will upgrade to one of these if it even comes close to my expectation.

Oh and they won’t do away with the solid rear axle, that’s a guarantee.

While I agree with some of your comments I do not agree with the "Toyota knows what they are doing" comment. Actually it's a yes they do, no they don't situation. Toyota knows people will buy on reputation alone. Toyota knows they have a very loyal following and those people will choose Toyota over others. But I don't think Toyota realizes that they are playing with fire solely relying on that loyal following. Case in point, and I hate to bring it up, the whole trans cooler debacle. Really? Also what about the whole Tacoma debacle???

But Toyota probably realizes it can lose a few sales over watering it's products down a little bit. I for one am sad to see this happening. An it has been happening for YEARS!! What to do? Are the other choices better? That is for each of us to decide, but, If Toyota comes out with some BS for the Tundra like they did the Tacoma...simply...not good. I hope the new Tundra is a game changer like the 2007 was.

I partially agree with what you said, as far as the taco bit, at least. Calling the cooler a "debacle" is premature though. A bunch of forum members getting all riled up about it doesn't prove anything. Not wanting to derail this, but there is no evidence to show that there is any major harm being done. Oil analysis results have actually indicated the opposite. Sure, there may be a shortened lifespan to the transmission, so it only lasts 250k miles instead of 300-400k, but that's still a better record than many many vehicles.

Toyota has a plan and a company culture that has been built over time and solidly pointed toward longevity. I think we are all with you in hoping they pull another 2007-esque homerun with the 3rd gen, and their track record would indicate that they are doing things very methodically.

I updated my post. Agree with you. An yes Toyota is very methodical. Do some research on their battery tech development with Panasonic for the future EV Toyotas. Gas vehicles days are numbered if they can perfect it.

have you checked out the CITY Toyota is backing/building near Mt. Fuji? They are going for some very ambitious test stuff. I figure that EVs or Hydrogen fuel cells will bump off the gas vehicles in the next decade. I personally vote for the hydrogen ones, because EVs just won't work where I live and go. Anyway, enough derailment from me. I love my Tundra and I am hoping it will be the last truck I ever have to buy. I just need to quit looking at travel trailers......

I think that assuming or wishing that the perspective of a few members of an Internet Forum have any real infuence on Toyota decision making at all might be a little misguided overall?

I bet they feel they are doing just fine worldwide and going in planned directions according to fluid plans laid out long ago and modified in house regularly too.

Its fun to talk and both about it all here but I have no faith that we make any small difference with them in the end.

We get what we get and we spend silly money trying to make it our own.

The limiting factor for EV trucks will be fleet sales. Last week a few of us had this discussion - we run our trucks all day (it's our heat shelter in the cold, plus traveling from structure to structure) and were wondering how we could work with EV vehicles. Me personally I'm using ~50 litres of gasoline a day, but some days it gets up to ~80 litres, so how big of a battery would be required to function the same way? We joked we'd have to run a generator all day just to charge up the batteries. So with tech the way it is right now a hybrid may be the way for many fleet sales - not the hybrid like we currently have in vehicles but like diesel-electric locomotives. Heck our camps aren't even connected to the grid, they get their electricity from diesel generators.

Yup. Agreed. That's why I vote hydrogen fuel cells.

Anyway, the 2022 Tundra has my interest, but only because I am curious. I have no intention of getting rid of my current truck.

Toyota getting rid of the V8 proves your point. Yes there's lots that won't buy anything but a V8, yes there's a bunch of us who prefer V8's, but Ford has proved they can sell turbo V6's very well. So if Toyota can make their V6 get insane fuel mileage numbers (25 MPG+) they will easily gain more new buyers than they will lose in the V8 crowd.

But at the same time saying they don't care what we think is a little off - on here you see time and time again people say the payload is lacking, and based on what is out there the payload will increase substantially. While this isn't their only source for next gen wishlists, I'm sure they took a few looks during the concept stage at what was floating around on the forums.
