What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I did two back to back oil changes basically. One that was shortly after I got the truck (it had been about 3,000 miles since and 1 year since oil change) and then one about 2000 miles later. I just need to circle back and reset this, I did read about it now that I think back on it but I totally forgot it existed.

 

Well...I gave my Magnaflow muffler to a co-worker in trade for their stock muffler...8 weeks later I'm over waiting for him to install the muffler so I went ahead and bought a new muffler that i hope will get me more in line with where I want to be noise-wise.

 

I only have about a 2” lift but why I’m leaning towards the high angle boot is this. Both the inner boots are missing the inside (diff side) clamps. Not sure if they were put in that way purposely to allow for more stretch/angle due to the lift or if they broke which would be odd. The other bummer is I had to buy both boots n grease in the oem kits so I will have two new inner boots and extra grease that I won’t need. But I think I’m settled on new high angle boots just for reassurance.

2nd issue. I THINK I’m hearing my rear shocks top out when going over speed bumps crooked. I have a 1.5” or 2” block under the rear leafs thats maybe causing the problem? I have billy 5100s back there but is there something else I can do to either upgrade the shocks or take out the block and keep the lift?

 

I think the bilstein are only rated for 1" lift on the back. Toytec and Icon have 3" lift options. Old Man Emu is for 1.5 of lift.

 

Yeah I just looked at bilsteins website. Not sure how I missed that when I installed these 5100s 1.5yrs ago. what about the 5160s? They do up to 2” and I can get them for $375 for the rear set.

 

I did that same kit over a year ago (https://www.tundras.com/threads/wha...dra-today.2558/page-392#post-1499534)...still looks nearly as good as the day I did it....

 

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, I do know the 5160 are well regarded around here.

 

If he wins, do we all go up to his place and help him finish up the Taco?

 

If he wins, he should do a book on tape. Not sure how that is an award for winning, but it would still be great

 

ignored it. Think we ended up with 13" of snow but Tundra is parked in the windy corner so not too deeply buried. Right around the corner of the house the snow is waist high.

 

Is that a northern pro tip? Leave the wipers out before a big storm? Is that just so it's easier to scrape the windshield?

 

exactly. Otherwise they freeze to windshield & rip when you lift them to clean. Then no worky good no 'mo.

 

Also, pro tip#2 is to turn your wipers on and when the reach full the end of the wipe turn the truck off. You can reach both wipers now from the driver side

 

Nah - then when you auto start they flop about.

I absolutely love my Flowmaster. I've had it for 15 years. Think it's a 50 series Deltaflow. Great deep tone at idle. Not too loud on the highway, no 2k RPM drone. Also, It's still on there. Hasn't rusted or lost it's great sound. If anything, it's broken in and sounds even better.

 

I had a 50 series on my 4.0 Tacoma and loved it! If I ever put a muffler on this truck it will be another 50.

 

no no no. you turn the wipers back off after you turn your truck off. Then they just go back to their resting spot when you auto start

 

Delta mufflers don't break in, only packed mufflers do.

 

Cool story, but mine are louder and deeper sounding now than when I originally bought it. I get the glass vs. chambered or in this case just baffled design. But the sound has truly matured over time. Maybe I've blown a significant amount of my catalytic material out..... No 02 sensor codes though!

 

That's just the rotting mole's in your exhaust. They like dark places.

 

And they give off a crispy delicious smell from the tail pipe. Shake and Bake!

 

Yesterday I replaced the cargo led lights that were strobing. Cheap Chinesium LEDs. Lol. I replaced them with the remainder of the cheap Chinesium LEDs that I had left.

I'm not saying your truck isn't, or doesn't seem, louder. There just is nothing in that type of muffler to break in. Its a structure of walls, no wearing items unless maybe its rusting inside.

My truck gets quite a bit louder in the winter, not sure why, but it isn't because anything broke in.

 

One time we had a Burgeoning Hand Model we had to break in. Took him a couple months figure out there is no such thing as Diet Water.

 

True story- Coffee Bean used to sell bottled water and the label said it was fat free. I had a good laugh first time I saw it.

 

Replaced my 3 cracked and burnt coils I found when I was tracking down my P0171 code and cleaned the throttle body changed air filter and fuel filter on the old girl today. If nothing else the code made me do some much needed maintenance so there’s a silver lining to everything.

 

We had a new guy in the shop briefly. We were welding up material carts. Once the welds cooled slightly we would grind off the excess for a "clean look." We gave the new guy a bucket, a face shield, and leather gloves.

We told him we needed to reuse the sparks. 3 hours in the new guy was starting to question us. We reassured him for the next hour that this was legit. 4 hours later we were caught by our supervisor.

He smiled a smile I'd never seen before, and then demonstrated to the new guy on the best way to hold the bucket to catch more sparks. He handed the bucket back after one weld was ground off, and said "Go get em champ."

 

Worked at a grocery store in high school, the joke was always to have the newbie shake the salad dressings as part of the "facing" process. Because they would separate and customers would think they had gone bad, so shake them when you face them.
