Next up was putting the Yakima rails integrated into the TC USA cover rails to good use. I had Yakima landing pads and control towers on my previous truck, and always had problems installing and removing the control towers because of how the clamshell design worked to engage/disengage the locking pins to the landing pads. When I was at the shop getting paperwork wrapped up to grab the roll cover, I checked out the Rhino-Rack towers, and they have a MUCH IMPROVED design for how the locking pins engage/disengage. That, I and I also liked the "aerodynamic" cross bars over my older round Yakima bars. So, I picked up the following parts and got them installed Sunday, along with finishing up the roll cover lock position adjustments (still need to do the drain tubes).
I also picked up a 2-board snowboard rack, but didn't mount it yet. Thinking of getting the 4-board rack instead.

Installed a coin holder to the lid of my console safe this morning. Used a little double-sided 3M automotive tape (red) and tested placement to make sure it cleared the different pen holders and stuff in the lid of the console. We'll see how it holds up, but I opted for this route to keep it from being visible inside the cab (in my old truck, I had one of the cup holder ones).
    IMG_0785.HEIC.jpg

UPDATE 5/6/21 - last weekend I closed the console lid while the coin holder lid was open and it broke one of the small tabs on the lid hinge. So I tossed the lid, but the coin holder is still working great.

Ordered the CPLAY2Air adapter during the Black Friday deal ($99) and it arrived last week. Finally got around to “installing” it tonight before I left work. Took like 30 seconds. Works like a charm so far... including a couple stops on the way home where it connected right up after getting back in the truck.

This has me considering putting in the wireless charger in my console now...

Updated the Bed Cover post to include information on the drain tube install.

I order this the other day. I didn’t realize it was actually shipping from China or I would have gotten the one from Amazon. Who knows how long it’s going to take to arrive.

I think I was right at 2 weeks.

As an aside, I've got two things I ordered from Ali "Express" nearly a month ago that have stated they were "turned over to Last Mile Carrier" since 12/3 and no sign of them yet...

FWIW, I drove to Seattle and back with it (2hrs without traffic, but there was traffic... so more like 3 each way) and lots of stops while I was in town. I was using GPS and Spotify the whole time, and there were a time or two when I heard a skip or stutter in the music. BUT, while in the office during the middle of the day, I was listening to Spotify on my air pod pros and got similar skips/stutters randomly. So I’m more inclined to believe it’s just the nature of using streaming audio service over the air to a playback device than anything specific to the adapter.

yes, it takes a few extra seconds to connect after the truck is on and the audio system gets past the warning screen. So does regular wireless carplay in my experience. So I’m happy so far

Really love the look of this! Will the integrated Yakima rails support the weight of a RTT? Trying to figure out if I want to go this route or with a Diamondback cover integrated frontrunner rails.

As far as I know, as long as the cross bars can support it, it will. The rails are the same Yakima rails that you can bolt to the top of canopies and such. And the cover rails are firmly anchored to the sides of the bed. The only thing is the height... if/when I add an RTT, I’ll probably go with more of an overland rack that goes up higher than the rhino rack towers.

Thank you for the update, I was worried about how the integrated tracks where mounted for wight support, but had no idea the load rating on the cross bars was so low. Frontrunner it is!

My AJT stuff is in, along with the USB adapters and everything else I've been waiting for. Now I need to sneak away for a day and rip the cab apart to swap shit out!

No. I went with a mix of red and black. I thought about it but without seeing it first hand I was wired about how it would look.

Good to hear about the CPlay2Air. I have been contemplating one as I have always wanted wireless CarPlay but then that leads to your next post. Then you need wireless charging. Not sure I want to attach that mod. I’m not very handy. I watched the vids on the install. If I have to cut the battery loose, I better not. lol.

You don’t NEED wireless charging, but it would be nice. I wouldn’t sweat the install... I rarely bother to pull the negative terminal unless I’m doing something that will unplug the airbags. Just be sure not to short out any live power to grind and you’re good.

or find someone near by to help and buy them a six pack of good beer!

If I end up doing it? It will be someone professional doing it for me. LOL

Without a 115 watt plug there’s no way to put in a fast charger. I wanted to have a fast charger in the truck, like in my Titan. Need a usb-c or a 115w plugin

My oldest daughter got me the AJT V2 fob (no internal key storage) in Cement (bad lighting - it looks more green here) for Christmas. Now I need to get my power tailgate lock installed so I don’t need to keep the hard key on my key ring.

I don’t think it’s the rails that are the limiting factor FYI. It’s the landing pads/towers/crossbars. If you don’t mind making your own parts you could easily mount a tent setup on those Yakima rails. At least that’s what I plan to do. I have the same setup as @RainMan_PNW except I have a toolbox at near the cab. Currently have two setups with it 1) Yakima crossbars as mentioned and customized brackets to work with a thule tracone

So the AJT fob can’t store the key in the fob?

Not this version. They have one that does (V1). This one is slimmer in size at the expense of not holding the physical key, which I really have no use for anyway.

Do you have the “junior” toolbox? I keep thinking of adding that to the top, but man they are proud of it $

I have the big guy. Got lucky and found a great deal on another cover for a super duty and then cut my tundra rails down to appropriate size to make it fit. Eats up 20” of bed space but I think around 20” is pretty standard in terms of toolboxes.. plus I’ve always had a toolbox on both my trucks so no clue what life is like without one. As for the junior toolbox, I’d just go with a couple swingcases. You can probably fit just as much stuff in two of them as the junior, will maintain a clean look on your truck and save you some $.

    Thx.
Tried swing-cases on my last truck - they weren’t for me. But I’ll end up doing something - probably using some ammo cans or Nanuk cases.
