Ok boys and girls how do we fix this? Toyota factory truck bed cover security is trash. If I pull up hard enough the truck bed cover will open up. I can put my thumb up and get it started then get it all the way open. I’m thinking some kind of door latch maybe? Latch it shut to keep it secure. At least more secure then it is. I know higher end covers solve this but I feel a DIY enthusiast can tackle this problem with ease.

Try adjusting that white plastic latch by loosening the screws and adjusting the latch to the left until it will fully engage without bouncing off the latch point. (Better leave your tail gate down while adjusting in case you get it too far.) Your pic shows it at maximum travel to the right. At minimum engagement, the latch may be deforming and allowing the latch to disengage.

None of the reasonably priced bed covers are going to be as secure as a bank vault. I bet I can could get into mine in two minutes using a coat hanger. They basically keep honest people from meddling with your stuff.

I agree 100% with you. I tried moving that one to the left and the other to the right but there is a lot of slack in there and the idea of two cheap plastic nubs holding it down make me want to scream hahaha. I have been thinking about the slider door latch thing more and More and feel like that might be a viable option

Fixed it. Drilled 2 holes and ran some 550 through it.

    Looks more secure for sure.

FYI, there are no Toyota factory bed covers (or nerfbars). They are 3rd party, maybe rebadged familiar brands.
