I'm looking into brake busters but now I see a review and photo on Amazon where it ruined some rims the same finish as mine.

No but brake buster does leave residue. I wipe them down with griots 3-1 afterwards. Have you tried a polish on them?

I have not tried to polish with Nufinish yet. I sent the photos to Meguiars and I'm waiting on their response before I move forward with anything else.

Meguiar's has asked for an estimate to have the wheels refinished

I believe we have the same brand (Ultra Wheels?), but different model. These are about 4 years old and I had similar "look" to them. This is about a week and half of driving after I cleaned them with Griot's Garage heavy duty wheel cleaning kit. I didn't put in as much as love and elbow grease on them as I underestimated the time and effort it would take me with the G9 correcting & protecting my paint. For under $50 for the kit, it might be worth a shot :spending:

The wheels on my 2018 Tundra still wash up like new, the secret is.................Don't use any of the "cleaners", Just get a good brush and towel, and use the carwash soap.
Guess what the secret to keeping the plastic looking good....that's right, don't use the "protectants".

Yea, I'm unlikely to use wheel cleaners moving forward. They all say "safe on all wheels" then down below "don't use on ______". Just wary to use anything as this should've been fine and I used exactly as instructed and still ruined the wheels. Gonna do it with soap and water from now on and if that isn't doing the job maybe go to some diluted brake busters.

Mine are the TSS TForce wheels 2015. RimPros tells me to refinish the wheels they'd end up being all black. Not what I want as I like the chrome lining on the wheels. Waiting on another reply from Meguiars as I brought up replacing the wheels completely.

Worst case I'll start experimenting on them to get the finish back to normal and if I can't I'll get them refinished in all black.

Even though I do not have these fancy wheels like you guys....it's threads like these that make me avoid wheel cleaners unless there is no other alternative. For the record, Sonax is the brand that detailing guru Mike Phillips uses, and his advice is something I pay attention to. I've used Sonax Full Effect on some clear-coated wheels that were REALLY bad, and it did the trick...at least as far as the iron from the brake pads goes.

Even though my wheels are coated, I keep that coating going by doing a final wipe of the wheel with Ethos Defy. It gives the coating a boost, has some decent cleaning power to get any small spots I might have missed, and it gives the wheels a little gloss....never a bad thing. They get clayed twice a year too....there's always some deposits that are a bugger to get off.

What dilution rate for the Optimum Power Clean? I mix it at 3:1 and 5:1

I did 3:1 because the limestone dust is a pain to get off. I typically can get away with 5:1 on most my wheels if they are not that bad. I also did the engine bay with the same ratio.

Giving the wheels a topcoat of griots 3-1. This stuff is awesome on black wheels as a top coat or standalone protection. My wheels have dlux applied 4 months ago. I try to do a 3-1 wipe down every 4-6 weeks. 264D77FF-0D81-450B-B6F7-F1DEE670B1B3.jpg

Nah man. I’m pretty ocd about my detailing so my wheels are maintained at a elevated level. If I had your wheels in the garage I’d probably bust out a polisher and see what I could do. I’d polish with a griots or black fire product. If that does the trick I’d use CarPro eraser to wipe them down then I would topcoat with 3-1.

Meguiars is actually gonna be cutting me a check at the first of the year to get them refinished. Once they’re done I’m gonna put some NuFinish on them.

That is awesome....definitely good customer service there. I'd be careful about using any polish on them after they've been refinished. Get some advice from whoever does it, and see what they recommend as far as product and time before applying anything. Even though a little pricey, I'd recommend Cquartz Dlux when they can be coated.
