Hey guys, looking for some advice here.

Parents bought a new 2020 Silverado 1500 a few months ago and have decided that they don't like how it tows their big boat so they have asked me to help them sell it.

I've always sold vehicles on craigslist, but they weren't $45,000 vehicles either.

Is there anywhere you guys would recommend posting it for the most exposure to people looking for new vehicles of this caliber?

I've posted on facebook marketplace and plan on joining some Silverado groups to cross post it there. Would it be worth putting an ad on auto trader or somewhere like that as well?

May want to check out Carvana
They offered me 42,000 for my truck when I was looking at trading it in.

Pretty much on point with what I was offered by the dealer

Although my truck is less than two years old I have 30,000 miles on the girl.

CarMax is likely not your best option but my neighbor has done some business with these folks in the past.
I would think the AutoTrader/TruckTrader/Cars.com would be your very best option over Craigslist for obvious reasons.
I found my used Tundra on AutoTrader years ago and made two people really happy.

Thanks for the input guys. Gave Carvana a try. Only offered me $36,000 when Blue Book value is about $45,000. Truck is practically brand new still with only 5k miles. I'll give auto trader a shot.

    Alot of them
That Carvana offer sounds low. Look at comparable models on their site to see what they are selling them for. I had a 2013 with the 4.6, Double Cab, 2wd, 97K miles. Dealer offered 12K, sold it to Carvana for just under 18K.....that was in October.

I've had good luck buying and selling on CarGurus, not so much on AutoTrader. Every contact received on AutoTrader was a scam, so exercise all the usual precautions on whichever site you choose.

Vroom.com is another one to try for selling your parents' truck. Basically like Carvana, but they operate out of Texas apparently. I sold a car to them back in April, and they gave me about what "private party sale" price was on KBB at that time...

I’d put it in as many places as possible. The more exposure the more likely that one person who’s looking for it will see it.

    It only takes one. :spending:

He already has a 2019 Ford gasser that he says pulls it better than the Chevy. I’m not positive which engine is in his Ford but I know the Chevy has the 5.3 instead of the 6.2. Poor guy is having a tough time with trucks...he bought the Chevy while the Ford was in the shop for warranty work (plan was to sell it) and then decided he didn’t want the Chevy anymore after towing his boat a couple hundred miles. He really should get a GM diesel and call it a day. He does enough towing heavy stuff to qualify for one.

The boat is either a 26 or a 28 foot offshore boat, not positive what the weight is

I put mine in Vroom out of curiosity. They offered me more than I paid last year. A week later they upped it a few hundred dollars with a second offer.

You could try going back to the dealership (or other Chevy dealers) and asking them to purchase it back. I did this with my last Tundra, they were happy to buy it and gave me a solid price for it.

As you stated, this is far different selling selling a cheap cash car on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. Most(not all) people spending $45,000 will need to finance and when people need to finance they usually buy at a dealership.

Unless there is something that makes that truck special it likely will have a tough time selling as a private party vehicle. I just went through this recently and ended up selling it to the highest bidder which was a local dealership.

    A little update.

I tried out all of the car buying options that you guys recommended.

Vroom gave the best offer at $40,000. That's several thousand above the Carvana offer, but still not enough to part with it.

I've posted it on autotrader as well as carguru so we'll see what happens.

    Thanks again for the suggestions.

If I may ask, how much did he pay for it new? How long ago was it?

And with it only having 5k on it I would be very aware of how much they are selling the new ones for because that is your main competition.

Very true. He paid 52k and I know dealers are starting to come way down on the 2020’s.

Luckily I found a buyer last week after parking it next to the road at my office. Guy came in and gave me 2k to hold it for him while he dealt with his bank. Drove home with it yesterday.
