I'm in the market for a 2021 tundra and want the SR5 sport in army green but for not much more could get a 1794. Currently I have an sr5 but have wet okele neoprene seat covers. I am wondering how the leather would hold up to a 50 lb vizsla and his nails/ kids 3 years old and 6 months. Does it scratch really easily?? Any info or experience with this would be appreciated!

I think you'll want seat covers. The leather is on the softer end I think it will damage over time without protection.

I would get a waterproof cover. I have a Mud River backseat cover and it works well. I like it because to clean it you spray it with a hose and let it dry.

Either Tundra I'd get seat covers.

Yes the leather scratches easily. Seat covers is a must for your situation

I have a boxer-pit and use a set of the neoprene coverking seat covers, plus a dog hammock on top of that. The hammock is really easy to remove for cleaning and keeps the dog from coming into the front row if you hit the brakes. The coverkings provide an extra layer of padding and waterproof protection for the leather.

Why put seat covers on the beautiful 1794 leather seats? Seems like you’re defeating the point...

Leather is the way to go for riding with your dogs, just for the ease of cleaning up hair. The hair will get under the weave on cloth seats to the point that you can't even vacuum it off. The dogs probably would scratch up the leather or vinyl some, so dog slings when they ride would help.

I have two >100lbs Rotties and they ride in the back with this seat cover. The color matches perfectly.

I keep the back seats folded up and also have a "doggie hammock" back there otherwise my 80# Chocolate Lab would ruin the back seat area. I have several "pine tree" air freshners in the truck to mask the dog butt odor as well.

My 82lb heeler mix doesn't really mess up the leather, I think he put a couple scratches in it, but not 100% on that because the PO had a dog ride in it as well. Leather has held up well for 206k miles. Sand, mud, rocks, you name it, my dog has brought it in the truck. He jumps in the truck from the ground into the back seat and hasn't messed up the leather back there yet, he alternates from the front and back seat. I use chemical guys quick leather detailer and their conditioner. Seats still look great when I detail them, but they do have normal wear and tear as would be expected after 6 yrs and 206k miles. I got this truck because the leather keeps the dog hair off. Not to put a seat cover on it that will be a dog hair magnet. Probably will replace the leather in 2 years, and go with non perforated in the back. Katskinz run what? $1200 a set or so? So for 8 years of use, that's $150 a year. $12.50 a month. That is completely and totally worth it to me for the look of leather and ease of maintenance and cleaning dog hair.

Its a truck. Not a luxury car. Let those dogs enjoy the leather too.

Agree. No perforated leather for their nails to catch and keep their nails trimmed.
You both will enjoy your leather.

@Sumo91. That's exactly how I think. It's a pickup that I will be using for hunting, fishing hauling you name it. Is the platinum leather the same as 1794 just different color?

Not sure about the suppleness of the leather but the 1794 also has the suede patches and trim.

The leather is perforated. The 1794 has the ventilated seats.

If you're gonna use it as a truck like I do, then I would sweat it about some scuffs or scratches on the seat. Itll just give you grey hair and bother you. And the leather quality is the same. Just different colors and the 1794 has the suede on it. I'll be detailing my truck next week. I'll post before and after photos for you.

Not worried about some scuffs and what not. Just don't want the dogs nails to puncture the seat causing further tearing in the future

They may scratch it but I doubt they puncture it. My gf has a Doberman/pit bull mix hes about 60lbs with really long claws and he hasn't punctured it. He paces ALOT in the truck. He's not used to rides yet.

My SR5 has upgraded 1794 interior. When my dogs ride, I just cover the backseat with an old blanket and it works great. I would never allow them on the leather without it being covered.
