What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Where did you buy these pieces? Ones for my double cab are ridiculously expensive. Front driver's side one is torn and needs replaced.

Oh we are gettin somewhere now. Hour a night after work pays off slowly.

The center will get a hitch and some angled and dimpled plate to fill the space but otherwise pretty well done on design and ready to clean everything up.... finally!

 

Similar trans. You’d have to get creative on that part, but the 2uz ECU probably can run a 4.3z

Installed a Gibson stainless cat-back (keeps the stock resonator) exhaust. I wanted just a bit of growl if nothing else, not expecting any noticeable power gain.

The stock muffler/tailpipe came off surprisingly easy and still looks good for being 18 years old.




I ordered it from Summit Racing, they then relay the order to Gibson who drop shipped it to me after production. Took about 3 and a half weeks from order to delivery.



It's a 5 piece system put together with u-clamps vs the stock one piece. 2 of the u-clamps come welded to the hangers.



The inlet shows a louvered baffle leading to a chamber. I was glad to see it wasn't a straight through design because I was concerned about it being too loud.



Outlet has a spiraled perforated baffle.



I didn't have a replacement exhaust gasket/donut so I took a trip to the parts store for some Permatex Ultra Copper high temp RTV to help make a good seal.



I probably didn't need the RTV, the fit was very tight and required a good amount of BFH persuasion with a block of wood.








I let the RTV cure overnight before firing it up this morning. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the mild cold start rumble, it wasn't loud at all. I ran a few errands around town today and didn't get over 50 MPH but so far I don't find the exhaust note intrusive at all. I occasionally tow a trailer through 6-7% grades so even if it helps just a little (Gibson claims HP gains average 10-15 and 15-20lb-ft of increase torque between 1800-3000 RPM) while sounding good, I'll be happy with it.

 

Swapped on a new rubber o-ring just because. This is for the transmission dipstick which sounded like the old one had a good seal still, but I found some on a street corner and thought ‘because’.

Need to track down the engine oil dipstick o-ring somewhere as its smaller.

 

Being out in the rough country makes me glad I have a 1st gen. It's not quite a landcruiser as far as durability goes, but it gives me some extra confidence when I'm 25 miles away from civilization driving on dirt "roads"

 

I also need a new dipstick o ring, mine is missing

 

Pro tip: when towing and turning overdrive off for a steep hill, make sure u turn it off and back on while putting positive pressure on the accelerator.... if u shift in and put of o/d mode without any positive pressure for acceleration, it'll feel clunky and not smooth at all

Got my shock relocation kit, thing is pure art.

Got tired of the AC door rattling at the top on the drivers side, more so than the passenger side. Probably more annoying since it's next to my ear.

Found some thin (about 1/16" thick or so) 3/4" O.D. clear stick on pads at the hardware store and put one where the rubber bumper on the AC door contacts the cab. Mucho better.

 

A couple days ago, I added some roof rails that I picked up from the junk yard (salvaged from some GMC Yukons). I had to cut the cross bars a little since they were nearly going over the edge. It was a little scary drilling into the topper, but its only fiberglass and was $100.






Yesterday, I went and picked up a Tuff Stuff Overland Ranger RTT (much to my wife's chagrin).





I may add more roof rails to the roof of the truck itself, so I can throw a basket on top for more storage and to mount some lights. But that's super scary drilling into the cab. I saw that "no-drill" one but it's a decent chunk of change.

Also tempted to throw one of these on the back to add some safety:

Couldn't find my connectors, couldn't find my t-tap box. Looked around for 2 hours before calling off the search, and throwing in the towel.

I did mount one of my pods, and then tested it with my test battery. I'm pleased with the outcome.
