Installed AGM X2 Battery and SDHQ Battery Terminal

currently running the X2 AGM. so far so good. It is on a tender though when truck is parked in garage for extended time. Time will tell as this is my first AGM battery.

 

I ran a cheaper AGM in my FZJ80 for 5 years. It ran my fridge, lights, winch, more lights, inverter. I never once put it on a charger and it never once gave me any issues. You’ll be fine.

 

It would not by chance be a Phoenix HU (fast boot) ?

Ok, i do have a Phoenix and it will draw down my battery if not ran for over 10 days.

 

I never had any battery issues until I bought an X2 Power AGM.
It died on me twice in just a matter of months when new.
At times I wonder if I got a lemon.

Doesn't make any sense to me to buy an AGM battery for my truck and have to charge it once a month.

Very happy with my Interstate battery..

 

Does anyone have any experience with Pulse Tech? They have a solar maintainer that is supposed to lengthen life through “pulsed” trickle charging and maintaining. Claimed supplier to the US military.
I got this idea after seeing their website that with certain hard tonneau covers you could mount one on the leading edge. Might fit the roll up type well.

 

That surely doesn't make sense & that's why I never charged mine.

 

I know the post on the X2 battery by 1lowlife is old but fast forward 2 years and I have had the exact same problem, nothing but headache after headache with the $350 X2 battery. It started about 2 months after the installation April 2022, at first my 2020 Tundra stalled but I was able to restart it, so when got home I put a CTEK charger on it, charged it completely, drove to a store went in when I got back out to my truck I found the key fob wouldn't open the door, so I had to use a hard key, when I got into the truck everything was now dead and it wouldn't start. I opened the hood and jiggled the battery cables, nothing loose, got in the truck and it started right up. At one point during the multitude of failures the truck a tripped a ton of error codes on the display so I brought the truck back to the dealer, they could not get any codes to show after the ignition was cycled off/on. I threw the stock flooded lead acid battery back in and have not had a single problem. A couple of times after the battery had been sitting in the garage (for months) I put my CTEK charger on it (I have have 2 different models of these) it would not charge no matter how many times I tried with both charger models. I finally put the battery on my boats MinnKota MK-345PC which somehow was able to charge it, but after having installed and removed the battery from my truck several times with the same dead battery issue each time I can no longer trust this POS. I tried running the battery down to get it fail so I could get it warranty by Batteries Plus, I even bought a bench tester which quickly determined that the battery should be replaced. At this point the battery is at Batteries Plus on their bench tester for the long test, it passed the quick test,I'm guessing I will be SOL and at this point will have wasted $350 bucks plus the $50 custom battery terminals plus $59 or a bench tester. My conclusion is this battery must have an internal break somewhere that any driving shock will bring out, I would recommend to anyone else out there to avoid this battery it must have a manufacturing defect.

 

Going on 27 months and has no issues with my install. I have a Duracell charger that has an Advanced AGM setting on and regular charge it about every 6 weeks.
Usually takes 1/2 hour before it is fully recharged

 

I really think I got a lemon (as another poster above stated) my CTEK charger also has AGM setting and will even recondition a completely dead battery using a supply setting to get the minimum voltage high enough for automatic charging to take over. Even after fully charging the battery removing the charger and driving a mile it still failed me. After seeing enough similar posts on this forum I really think there is a quality control issue going on. I spoke with a Toyota service department manager with 30+ years of experience and was told there's no reason that an AGM battery would be incompatible with the charging system and that I probably have a bad battery, he also wished me good luck getting warranty for a battery with intermittent failures.

 

Never tried X2 but never a problem from Northstar or AutoZone AGMs I've had.
Never had a charger on them and no mods altering voltage to them. I put them in and forget them same as any battery.
Have the 27f Northstar AGM in 4Runner now. It was in my Tacoma before that. It's 6 years old and no sign of concern.

 

I appreciate your input on the Northstar battery. Over the last half a dozen years I have purchased 5 AGM batteries all of them Exide brands form the local Fleet store, never had any real problems. I did put battery maintainers on the vehicles that sat for extended periods without any use after discovering the AGM batteries would go dead. After speaking with a knowledgeable relative he explained that after market long range remote starters are most likely the culprit, as they are constantly on duty listening and gobbling up current. The vehicles that have these types of remote starters in them are the reason I went with the more powerful AGM in the first place, also I live in northern WI and the extreme cold reduces the starting power of regular batteries. I really wish I would have gone with a Northstar AGM battery in the first place but after reading somewhere that the X2 was basically a rebranded Northstar and Batteries plus would give an extra year of warranty if I purchased from them that was the basis for my decision. I've thought about just pulling the fuse for the remote starter when the vehicle is going to sit indefinitely, but nothing is labeled so it's really hard to determine what fuse or fuses would need to be pulled, other then that there are no other mods on the vehicle. It remains to be seen if Batteries Plus will honor the warranty or even find a problem since a bench test does not mimic the vibrations of actual driving conditions, that is for sure.

 

My X2 battery died this morning after 3.5 years. The local batteries plus tested it and replaced it under warranty. The manager also told me the replacement battery does not come with a new 5 year warranty. It only carries the remainder of the original battery. I have mixed feelings on the X2. It was great in extreme cold, summer stop and go traffic, but lasting only 3.5 years does concern me for the $300 some dollars and I don't get a new warranty on the replacement battery.

 

I have been running that battery in the Tundra for over 2 years. Now I have to look, I believe I bought it before the pandemic

 

Bought my Northstar in April 2021 and soon added the HKB voltage booster. Battery is still rock solid, even after sitting for a week.

 

My X2 sat for nearly 4 months between the body shop and insurance companies junk yard before I went and took parts off my wrecked truck. I swapped it in the new truck and it fired right up.

And of course I swapped my SDHQ terminals, too.

 

Is the X2 still a Northstar now that EnerSys or whoever bought out Northstar? The Odyssey Xtreme is now listed as same battery and site even lists both Odyssey and Northstar part numbers together. They also all list 4 year warranty now instead of the 5 yr it use to have.

I had an actual Northstar 27f from 2017 that just went bad. Had to jump start recently, then it drove and started fine for a few days except sometimes power window wouldn't work. Tested bad though so I replaced it. Never had any extra charging or diodes or anything on that battery. Originally paid $250 for it. Can't believe it's a $400 battery now. The X2 lists $350. I just went with a parts store AGM for $250. Bigger easier network of stores if I ever need to replace it under warranty at least.

 

Thanks to the forum, I'm now running a GM diode in my 2018 Tundra with the X2 battery. After startup, I'm a consistent 13.6 amps. I think that will help with the longevity of the X2 battery.

 

Just did the diode myself, sits at 14.1v at idle now.

 

14.1V here after the install
