I don't know if I made a mistake or not. Traded my 4runner for tundra

So I got myself a 2012 tundra TRD rockwarrior 5.7L with 92k miles and traded my 2013 limited 4runner 4.0 with 54k miles. I know this may seem like a bad trade but the rockwarrior has so much more usability that I could not pass this up. What do you guys think? I got this in white and for some reason it came with LED or HID headlights preinstalled and I haven't been flashed yet. I just got it today over 7 hrs ago and I love every second of it. I do miss the push to start but it isn't necessary. I could have gotten a 2021 trd lunar rock but that would have made me payments at $950 which is insane even if the lunar rock color is that only year.

What do you guys think? Let me know I am open for some discussions.

I bought my truck in 2017 and it has 82,000 miles on it. As of right now I'm about 500 miles away from 150K.... And still going strong

Check the build link in my signature.
I traded in my 2008 with over 297k miles on it... it still drove as well as the day I bought it. Treat them well and do regular maintenance and they’ll run forever. That’s why I went back to the same just newer.

Wasn't to bad. I did go off-roading some what so it was fine for the 7 months I owned it.

RW are great and tundras have a lot more space than a 4R

for aftermarket LED headlights check morimotos or alpharex.

I am on my 3rd Tundra, and have had two Tacomas prior. Finally got around to getting a 4R Pro this spring, and if anything I feel they go beyond the hype. Love the thing.

Congrats on the RW! I had a 2010 (also in white). If it would have been in crewmax I would have never sold it, and still be driving it.

I sold my 4Runner last year because my son was driving it to get to college and go to work and needed something a little more economical. I like the roominess of my 2018 Tundra, especially when I bring my dogs, but in some of the places I go and for parking, I miss the size of the 4Runner. Perfect vehicle for driving up to the snow, driving along trails in the woods, or going fishing.

I traded a '16 4R Trail for my 2020 Tundra. The 4 is far from overrated and has the best interior feel/quality as far as Toyota interiors go (excluding the LC of course). Much nicer than the Tundra. The 4 was also 100% built in Japan and you can see and feel the difference. Atleast I can.

Honestly wish I could have kept it and have both. My 4 was built and it was a great vehicle. The Tundra however is more useful to me at this point and despite missing the 4 for off road I made a good choice. Again, wish I could have both.

I echo the idea that it hardly matters what anyone else thinks as they do not have to do your work and can not know what works better for you but evidently you do not know either?

I found the 4R way too cramped inside for anything I did or tried to do but can not fault it at all as a great truck if you fit it one.

I moved to an LC and loved it even more but again they are just too cramped inside for me and so I traded up to another Tundra which is just right for space even if I traded a little "Handiness" to get the space.

Everything can be a trade-off when trying to find the right truck and if the Tundra works better for you then just be happy about it,I am!

Hit the nail on the head with that comment! haha For how many 4runners with rooftop tents I see here in CO, not once have I actually seen them when out camping/off roading.

Beautiful truck OP! Function over form is what I live by. Sure a 4-Runner would have been nice, but I need the flexibility of the Tundra and my DC is plenty comfortable.

The 4runner is better for a lot of things.

The Tundra is better for a few things.

I have both. Ride and haulability in the Tundra is better.

4runner is more capable offroad. Lots more.

Honestly trading for a vehicle with 30k more miles and a year older seems odd to me, but if it fits your life better then great.

had to move things around financially to get my Tundra...that involved unloading a newer 5th Gen. The Tundra crew max was a must for us for various reasons.

The 4runner was a nice to have...but we are huge 4runner fans in our house and miss it terribly.

We are in process of saving for another 5th gen before the 6th gen comes out. Its our top priority we miss the 5th gen that much.

I just got off a decent trail yesterday in the Tundra and man I sure do miss the size, approach, departure, and breakover of the 4runner. The Tundra punches above its weight on moderate trails, but mother of god this thing is huge. Feels like a literal tank. Have to turn up music to not hear the pinstriping.

Sounds like the next smart move for everyone will be into a 1st Gen Tundra.

Bullet proof 4.7, perfect size outside, and roomy inside.

Getting hard to find any for sale as people have smartened up to them. $$$

I really like my wife's 4Runner Limited ... can't convince her that it needs a supercharger, though. I don't see us going away from Toyotas anytime soon.

I traded a 4Runner in on my Tundra, too. I will miss that 4Runner. Lots of dispersed camping trips and off roading adventures with my family were taken in that vehicle. Mine was a 2012 SR5 that I modded with a 2/1.5 OME/Bilstein lift. It went anywhere I wanted it to, and I took it some places that other guys on the trail warned me not to go. I had 134k on it, and I’m sure it would’ve went another 200k if I had wanted it to. But we outgrew it. We have so much more space to continue our adventures in the Tundra.

Yeah a lot of soccer moms and broverlanders drive 4Runners. That doesn’t change the fact that it is the most off-road capable Toyota right off the lot that you can buy for under $80k. An off the lot 5th gen 4Runner with sliders and stock size AT tires (stock suspension) ran the Rubicon with minimal damage to one door panel in 2010. Driver had picked a bad line.

I would say under-utilized, not overrated.

You could also say Tundras are for people who like to pretend they go off roading a lot.

Not a bad trade at all. Congrats on the new truck. I think you made the smart move overall by avoiding that TRD Pro Lunar Rock $950 dollar payment.
