Awesome. Hopefully his can. I’ll have to swing over there this week and give it a try. Is it as simple as just looking for the option like “reset transmission learning” or is if labeled differently

Under one of the tabs there should be a reset transmission memory or something like that

Thank you! One problem I’m finding is I can’t find anyone who shows the process on a 1st gen tundra. I’m not sure what cooler line to take off and push the fluid out of because there’s 2 lines at the bottom of the radiator and then there’s an auxiliary cooler in front of the condenser

There is a method (same technique) where you can do this from the Tow Package Cooler. I believe its the bottom hose on the Cooler that ‘pumps out’.

Process should be the same as a 4runner although I’ve never done this job. Worse case scenario, you switch hoses sides. 50/50 chance.

My 5.7L 2007 sometimes exhibits a shudder if I am accelerating up hill in drive and I let off the throttle just a bit, it's as if the T.C. is confused because it holds in 4th longer than it should then it stumbles into 5th.

My solution is to lock out overdrive by leaving it in S-4, I toggle in an out of overdrive as need but my in town driving is done without O.D. The shudder went away once I locked out O.D.

My 2002 transmission shifts like it has a shift kit, hard & positive with the O.D. on or off. It will even chirp the tires under hard acceleration when shifting from 1st to 2nd. , but there is no shudder.

So I can do this right at the small auxiliary cooler in front of the condenser? Just have to figure out which one is the return hose?

If you watch the video I believe he shows which one is the return line at the tranny, follow that forward to the lower radiator cooler out/in

I’ve found after driving a good distance that putting your Hands on the hoses can help you feel which one is the hot and which one is the cold. The hot side is usually the one going into the cooler. That should be the one to detach.

Get a nice skinny funnel that fits the Trans Dip Stick Hole. 2000-02 use Dex/Merc from Wallace Wurrld ($14 gallon). Superb fluid.

Everything I’ve read says to use the return line. Wouldn’t the return hose be the cold side? Also mines an 05 with no dipstick. It’s technically “sealed” but had a fill port on the side of the transmission which is very hard to fill from.

Yeah. You’ve the Goofy Sealed Transmission and that requires more work with using a pump to fill the pan.

Per the Return vs. Supply definitions: Like I said, I’ve never done this before but it makes sense that if the line feels hot (at the Cooler Rad) its coming from the hot transmission to be cooled and that is the line that ‘pumps out’ into your bucket.

The other line is the Fluid thats already been cooled by going through the Cooler. Try feeling them after a drive.

    Report back.

Since the dealer “serviced” it last week. I will remove one of the cooler lines and try and flush some out. I’m curious to see what color it comes out. If they actually changed 10 quarts and the capacity is 11.5 total. Then it should be fairly red I’d imagine. If it’s pretty dark I’ll suspect they didn’t do the 10 they charged me for. We shall see. I may try and switch over to valvoline max life and run 11-12 quarts of that through to flush out whatever is in there.

Is it possible to remove the plug and stick your finger in there? Wipe it on a white towel? Might be easier to remove the hose at the Cooler and a little will trickle out on a white towel. I have no idea what WS Fluid Color looks like, but I know Dex/Merc is a bright Ruby Red.

I believe it should be bright red just like typical atf. Honestly I’ll probably start by making sure the fluid level is good. When I do that some fluid should come out which should indicate the color. Then I can go from there. If they really replaced 10 quarts I imagine it isn’t really needed for me to flush it again as long as it’s a fresh color.

Since the lubeguard helped so much it's a fluid issue not mechanical which is great news. I'd do a full flush based on Timmy's video. I followed it exactly (except how to fill) and it was very easy, I didn't even spill any fluid!

You can also do another drain and fill, drive for 100 miles and do a 3rd drain and fill.

I have a '08 trd 4x4 that has a shudder at 1500 rpm with a light throttle .. also shudders in the 5 to 6 change on light throttle. This is a 85 km used trans with new WS fluid 3 months ago. I'm wondering how much lubegard oe equivalent went into the transmission?
