What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Toying around with some Flaring Tools found on the side of the road. These might be the Unions used on the new Power Steering Cooler.

 

Seeing this pic made me realize I used to have that exact same multi-file kit with the blue and white clamshell. Where the hell did mine go?! It's not in my box anymore. I think my dad bought it back in the 70s or something at Sears. He gave it to me back in the late 80s when I was hitting my teens.

 

Actually just asked dad, he said they were Glardon Vallorbe files. He doesn't remember where he got them. But damn I miss that set!

 

Ye. Scored those files from a neighbor friend concierge garage sale. Got to pick through some choice old skool tools from the 60’s-70’s that are super high quality. Since acquiring these files, I often wonder how I did with out them. I use the round files all the time.

 

Absolutely crucial for fixing bolt threads. Was perfect for fixing threads on axle ends of skateboard trucks, which was my primary reason to pull them out.

 

any rubbing on the frame? my fix for the front rubbing was a BFF front bumper.

 

No, my offset is -10 on a 8" wheel so I am fine there. I just hit the bumper alot.

 

I don't know what makes me happier...the new hub bearing, or the new splash shield!

One of my climate control knob lights went out, so I did the whole interior (except the cluster) up with LEDs.

I have been lurking for a while on this forum and wanted to show my 2006 DC Limited getting a bath. I bought this truck in February of '19 (151k mi), but it needs a lot of TLC. I previously owned a 2002 SR5 4WD new from the dealer, but I wanted a DC to fit a car seat comfortably. The 2002 was a fantastic truck with 283k miles on the OD, but life moves on.

Hey guys, it's been awhile. I'm blowing out white exhaust upon startup. I also smell a light fuel odor when driving (likely unrelated). Am I looking at a potential blown head gasket if this is abnormal for winter starts, and has anyone done this job?

 

Yes you can add 1"blocks. It may not make the best ride, and it may cause them to leak over time, but they will stretch for that 1" your adding.

I don't believe just adding shocks make a height difference. 5100's will accommodate a 1" is what i see.

 

is it cold out? condensation in the muffler will blow white smoke too.

 

I agree, the shocks wont give much height if any. For lift I believe youd need either an AAL or a whole new leaf pack. The shocks are just able to handle a 1" lift. Maybe because they are new youll get a little lift, but once they wear in you wont get much lift if any.

 

What did you order for that to get the full set of LEDs?

keep an eye on coolant level. thats all you really can do for now unless you want to dig into it more. but 90% chance is just condensation in the muffler.


now if the smoke smells sweet, then its coolant.

 

I've never noticed the fuel smell while driving but I did have it happen occasionally if I sat in the truck 30-40 seconds after starting it. Since I replaced my steering shaft seal I don't notice it. Have you checked that seal?

I replaced my wiper blade transmission arm or whatever it's called (the one that goes between the motor and the wipers) and I'm not sure I put the wiper arms back correctly. On side has a little more bend than the other. Which ones goes where?

See the 'info dump' sticky thread. There is a spreadsheet with a full listing. I did find that the "led" column in that sheet was unnecessary. I simply found the bulb # originally called for on the rack at autozone in an LED version. Also, the book at Autozone was good to go in terms of bulb numbers as well. I replaced the door, Maps, Dome, 4x4, and the Climate Control knob lights.

So awesome.

I bet you that seal is bad, it's loud in the cab too despite my sound deadening.

 

Long tubes all day. The low-end torque feels great.

 

Oh yeah. It's a $13 part and takes 60-90 minutes. If you have any rust you'll want to start soaking with Kroil or similar. The only tool I didn't have was something long enough to push the new seal in place. I had to improvise with a long pry bar.

 

Retrofit!

 

Haven't checked mine but I bet mine is bad too. It gets noisy in the cab driving down the road. A lot of road noise.
