I m thinking of buying a bike and taking it with me when I m Over-landing. I m considering the setup below.

    My question

    1. Bike weighs approximately 450lbs. Should I subtract 450 from Tundra payload capacity or is it the Tongue weight and doesn’t affect payload?

    2. I have airbags so I won’t have a problem leveling the truck once I have the bike up.

    3. I am a speed daemon with a supercharged truck. I m not made to haul trailers, that’s the reason I went with RTT route on my truck and have the gear to disappear in the mountains. You guys think hauling 450lbs will restrict me to 55 mph hiding somewhere between the tractor trailers.

I was wondering if any member here has done something similar. Thinking of Sunk costs before making a decision.

    Setup I m thinking

I carry a dual sport (almost 300lbs?) with a hitch carrier. See pic. With that setup the leaf springs are about an inch from the bump stops on completely crap Toyota stock suspension (never been a fan of Toyotas suspension settings or durability).

Truck handles just fine but I'm careful on big hits, like bridge crossings and things. Also I am no speed demon and drive 70 to 75 mph max when fully loaded like this. This will have to do until I get the funds for a suspension upgrade.

Your potential bike however weighs quite a bit more than mine and that also means you will have to have a pretty beefy hitch carrier. This will also add weight. But I think with your air bags it won't be much of a issue. As far as the speed thing I think you will use common sense once you see how it handles with your new setup. Hope this helps and good luck with your decision.

Anything you put on your truck comes out the payload. Your tongue weight comes out of your payload, too.

You should find out what your curb weight is with the options you added to your truck ( curb weight minus 7,200lbs) It doesn’t take much to be overweight in a tundra.

With you winch, tires, wheels, and tent, along with gear and passengers you are probably close to payload already. Get it weighed like Rider suggested and check your door sticker. My truck weighs about 6700 without me in it.

Also remember the rack will be around 100 lbs, so ad that to the 450 lbs motorcycle.

Damn Harris, I forgot how bad ass of a truck you have.

Good point. Guess I just have to get my truck weighed and take it from there.

You might want to look at Falcon suspension components. They have a rear shock that quickly adjusts for different loads.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of hitch carriers. Too much weight, too far back, and all carried on one contact point? no thanks.

Thank you. your setup picture helps. I have a 3 inch lift with a little better suspension. Stock leaf springs but upgraded shocks, airbags and eckstrom shackles.

Thanks Chris. I know you want me to buy a toy hauler, lol. I don't trust me when it comes to towing trailers on long routes. I will get my truck weighed and see if I can implement my theory otherwise toy hauler it is....
