2022 Tundra spotted towing

Looks like Toyota testing towing capabilities of the 2022 tundra

I’m excited and waiting to hear more about next gen Tundra. I’m leasing my 20 so by 2023 I can decide to get next gen if I like it or keep current one if the next gen is disappointing

 

Trailers too small. I’m feeling a little down on Toyota lately though so maybe my negativity is affecting my judgement. Another thing of note, it’s not squatting at all so either the trailer is empty or maybe factory air suspension.

 

Im hearing the V8 is going away. Apparently the next tundra will be a hybrid twin turbo V6. Not happy about that at all. Full sized trucks should always have a V8 option.

 

It does appear to be squatting a bit, especially if it has the nose down attitude of current gen tundras. And you could put a lot of weight in that dual axle trailer.

 

Air suspension or a better rear suspension which we know is going to happen if they want to increase payload. I doubt the trailer is empty. What would the point be of testing towing capability dragging around an empty trailer?

Can I ask why if the replacement is just as, if not more powerful than a V8 counterpart?

I will never own another V6 truck again.

For the same reason the Ford Raptor guys wouldn't buy the faster V6 Turbo Raptor. It will never sound or drive the same as a V8... regardless of how much engine noise is piped over the stereo speakers.

 

It most likely has 3.5klbs axles so 7klbs max.

Even if the trailer has 5klbs axles which is unlikely due to its size and the fact that you don’t see a heavy sub frame. The gvwr is still only 10klbs, which isn’t impressive in today’s half ton world.

New Ecoboost are at 14k towing so 10k isn’t impressive.

For Toyota to be publicly testing with that size trailer is telling me I’m probably not there targeted consumer. I hope I’m wrong though as I am a Toyota fan boy.

 

I get it, V8 rumble is great, but we've also upgraded from rotory phones to computers in our pockets. I rode in my uncles Ecoboost Expedition and was amazed at the pick up they had.

 

I agree. Hopefully that’s not their benchmark and they are just doing medium weight testing on a new suspension.

 

All heresay. Toyota is a very secretive company. There could be 12000lbs in that trailer. No one knows but the people testing it. My prediction is that this truck will be a game changer to the half ton market just like the 2007 was. Stamp it!

If they keep the current cab shape then to me it just looks like another "refresh" of the current model that started back in '06. The cab design needs to change in order for me to say its a completely redesigned truck. I guess we will see in a year.

 

No matter what Toyota does with the new Tundra there will be people here criticizing the new truck. Get ready for a bunch of threads along the lines of “Toyota really blew it because of (insert any random anal complaint)”.

 

And "it doesn't have a V8" will be the #1 complaint.

 

Only if Toyota was willing to overload that trailer.

I can’t see how it will be a game changer.

It’s going to be hybrid? Cool ford has a half ton hybrid with 500 ftlbs of torque.

Is it going to have a high torque turbo v6? 2013 wants its f-150 back

Super efficient 4 cyl turbo? (Chevy has entered the chat)

Small displacement diesel? Big 3 all have that option

Coil spring or self leveling air suspension? Ram has been doing it for years.

The only thing they can do is catch up to the current half ton market. And their truck is going to have to have 2k+ payload 12k+ towing to even be competitive.

What they can do is what they do best. Make a competitive truck that is reliable and cost effective.

I’m with you. Full size trucks should always have a V8 option.

 

Or they could fuck it up just like the 2016 Tacoma.

 

I’m a little salty lately, fully self aware of that. I’m also a Toyota fan boy and love the way the run their business and the culture that surrounds their products. But the facts are the facts and they have not been competitive in the half ton market for 5 years while the other makers have been fully invested. As the saying goes “if your not going to do it first you better do it the best”

 

But also, if it ain't broke...

 

Because smaller displacement forced induction engines have to work harder, reliability is a concern.

 

Dammit, I’ve been following the 21 with interest and very disappointed with the v6 tt. I was hoping they’d beef up the 5.7 with 30 extra hp any tq and mate it to a 8 speed. I know a lot of guys like Wish for a diesel, a 5.5 with 350 hp and 600 tq would FANTASTIC. But alas they are Following the Crowd with the v6tt....((
