Is there anything that is a "must have" between the years?

Im kind of leaning towards the XP model with black wheels, etc.

    thanks in advance!

The 2018 and up on upgraded models offer tss system which includes radar cruise which I love.

Gawd... glad my broke-ass doesn't have the money to worry about 38 gallon fuel tanks, and radar cruise. Back to the 'Gen-1' page for Me! LOL

I personally don't like the radar cruise as it makes me pay less attention sometimes especially on long drives, and I never use cruise in the city. My girlfriend has all the TSS sensors on her Corolla and the lane assist is the only thing that I can tolerate.

That is why I went with '17, also if you ever plan on swapping grilles and you decide to downgrade to something pre TSS, you have to deal with re-mounting sensors, which may be something of a chore or something you enjoy, up to you and your personal preference really. The TSS is really the only reason though, and the lack of a real transmission cooler issue on '19 and up I believe? I don't know much of the specifics but it is a hot topic on this site you can find threads about it. Only applies to if you are going to be towing a lot though. I don't tow very much at all.

2018 I can't say for certain, but 2019+ the TSS safety stuff (not to be confused with the TSS package that Sotheast Toyota puts out) is standard on all trims. I thought it was for 2018 as well, but I might be wrong as I didn't research that model year when purchasing.

    Welcome from NY.

2018 was the last year for the transmission cooler.

I would go with a 2018. You get safety stuff standard (you can turn it off) and you have a transmission cooler

I was in the same boat looking from 17-18-19. Once I started looking at prices and features I went with 2020 CM limited. The safety features and technology of 2020 limited was a big decider for me. I suggest you test drive an 18 then the 2020. Prices of 18-19s with miles in the 30,000 miles for couple grand more your at brand new

Like Rookie said, these trucks hold their value. Which also means higher prices for used. Check new prices and see if it’s in your ballpark.

Went with 18 for the TSS. Auto cruise is mighty nice on the long road trips. Turned lane assist off.

I thought it was standard on all, because all 2018+ grilles used the same emblem for a radar cover. Right up until they changed the mounting pegs on a few. @Roman can answer that one if he's got time.

2018 was the first year for Toyota Safety Sense. All 2018+ models have TSS.

IMHO, 2018 IS the best year. 1) you get the newer instrument cluster; 2) honeycomb grill; 3) LED headlamps available; 4) 38 gallon fuel tank; AND 5) most importantly: the last year of the transmission cooler. Yeah, you get radar and TSS and blah blah blah... Of course, you do not get push button start (which I personally do not care for anyway) and the H/U screen is slightly smaller than later years, but the OEM stereo for all model years sucks ass anyway. I know that there are others that will disagree, and that's cool. But I plan on towing a trailer, so I am very happy that I got in on the last year with the tranny cooler.

2018 for sure! You get the safety stuff, improved gauges (digital speedometer, tire pressure, etc.) and I'm not sure when they added the LED headlights, but they are wayyyyyy better then the headlights on the 2017 limited Tundra I had!

I absolutely love my ‘17. Has everything I needed on it at an almost good price. I changed out the headlights and fogs for LEDs fairly cheap (the Auxbeams do a great job, btw) and did some lighting upgrades...the bed, interior LEDs. The lighting upgrades were fun to do and learned my way around the truck. All in all, I’d happily recommend the 17 or 18. Can’t go wrong either way.

people are always asking if it’s a brand new truck.

In 2019 I was looking around for a fair while and settled on a new 2019. Brand new were less than 10 grand more than Used trucks at the time so that made my mind up for me. These trucks hold their value!
