The first time this happened was yesterday. About 200 yards from my house my truck just shut down. I put it in neutral and it started right back up. Today about a quarter mile from my house it stalled again, then a half mile from that at a stop sign it stalled again. After starting it again it stalled when I gave it some gas, then it stalled again driving at 35 mph. WTH is going on?

A few more details Rod. We know what happened, but details would help us. Check engine light? Even though it started, was it an extended crank start? Sputter initially? Rough idle? Any recent work or changes? So far I'm suspecting fuel like Danny. Do you have a scanner?

Great guess, that’s exactly what it is I just got a call from the dealer.

No rough idle, no extended crank start, no recent work and I used up almost 3/4 of a tank from my last fill up where I have been getting my gas for years. Also as of earlier today there was no engine light on but after parking my truck for about 30 minutes while calling the dealer to schedule an appointment, when I went to leave the engine light came on immediately along with a no traction message on my display. It sputtered and almost stalled while driving in traffic but I drove it as easy as I could. I did make it to the dealer w/o breaking down which was about a 15 mile ride from my home. The puzzling thing was at one point in my drive I was able to slowly get up to 60 mph and it seemed to handle that and responded okay when I got there but when I was back in traffic (45 mph speed limit) it resumed running like it could stall at any time.

Fast forward: Later I received a call from the dealer and was told it was the fuel pump. From what I was told there is a recall on the fuel pump in my truck. Maybe Toyota only honors the recall when the fuel pump fails, I'm guessing on that. I've never received a notice. The good news is I bought my truck last Oct. used as a Certified Toyota so this will be covered under the warranty and I might have it back as soon as late tomorrow morning. The service manager had compassion towards me when I told him I needed a truck as a loaner because I am bowhunting but all they had was a Corolla and being from Michigan he understood that. Maybe that's why I'm getting my truck back that soon. Praise God! Prayer does work!

    Glad you found a solution. Haven't received a recall either. I'm a 2016.

Glad the issue was simple to figure out.

Yes your symptoms match the recall literature.

This is maybe the second actual fuel pump failure I've seen on either 4 runner forum or tundra forum for this fuel pump recall.

Is this recall for the flex fuel vehicles?

I just got off the phone with the dealer and there's a holdup due to their compressor being down and they're waiting for it to be repaired. I was also told that they are going to replace the Fuel pump computer module also because they have been known to fail also. Hopefully later this afternoon I have my truck back. I'm not a big fan of the Corolla. It's a might smaller and looks almost like the Matrix.

As I'm typing this I just got a call from the dealer and was told it isn't the fuel pump but the Computer Module instead. He said the truck is running great w/o any issues. I sure hope they fixed it, my confidence level is wavering.
