So my use case is not at all what it is really intended for. Acoustic reflections off the dash can be mitigated pretty well with one of these ugly mats. I have a towel on my dash right now and it really helps focus the sound stage and remove a bit of harshness. Cheap audio upgrade.

Yes they do. Both my 91 taurus's.....tauruses......taurii...I dunno plural of taurus, have cracked dashes. Like deep crack. @robabeatle one of them has a dash cap, as pictured here:

I didn't even think to suggest this till fords were brought up. I can do some digging and find the company that makes this if you want me too.

That is a nice replacement. But...

The purpose of the mat for me is to improve acoustics. So I need something soft-ish. My dash actually looks pristine. I know my usecase is bizarre but for $50, it seems a no brainer. The mobile audio forum I visit has had a few members even measure the frequency response inside their vehicles with and without a mat and it is very noticeable above 5kHz. I am trying to eek out a little bit better soundstage without doing anything drastic. And, although my windshield has ceramic tinting, a little more sun protection couldn't hurt here as it seems the clouds are never returning to S.AZ.

The only one I've ever purchased in my lifetime was made by Covercraft, the original DashMat. https://www.covercraft.com/us/en/shop/2006-toyota-tundra/dash-covers/

I've never seen the one for 1st gen Tundras though.

Edit: Note they have the UltiMat for our Tundras available, you can even get custom-embroidered. Might be a good option? Not much more in $$

Has it made a noticeable difference in the inside temps of your rig in the sun? Since my Tundra lives outside I'm considering removing the existing tint and having it replaced with the ceramic stuff, even a clear/light film on the windshield.

When the truck is parked and I get in, I cant really tell but when driving and the ac is on but the sun is beating down, it is noticeable. I have insulation above the headliner and the acoustic treatment everywhere else helps insulate the whole truck. I definitely recommend the ceramic if you live in an oven like me.
edit: I see you do live in the oven: worth it

I'd like to see the Ultimat for a 1st gen.

Well, the only option for the 1st gen is "carpet" and I am thinking the Dashmat "suede" looks less ugly.
Still on the fence with just keeping a towel on the dash. It works and I can use it to clean off my dog when camping!

Speaking of dogs and dashes, you could toss this on it.
