Brake shudder on new truck

Has anyone else experienced brake shudder like the rotors are warped on a brand new truck? The dealer I bought it from was close to the ocean and I don't know how long it was sitting but it seems that this should be addressed during the pre-delivery inspection. I'm hoping it goes away but I'm at 400 miles now and hasn't improved. I contacted Toyota to have it documented but haven't brought it back to the dealer yet. Hopefully it goes away

 

I had it when braking a lot like going downhill. There are a few threads here about it too. Seems it’s common.

 

If it sat for a while in moist/wet or salty ocean air the rotors may have developed some rust which you could feel. But if that does not wear off in a couple hundred miles there would be another issue. I agree with timsp8 and have posted here on the matter before- I do think 3rd gen Tundras are prone to have front brake issues. There are just so many posts about shudder, shimmy when braking.

Mine will still do it occasionally when braking downhill sometimes. It was much worse when I first purchased the truck used- I ended up doing cycles of bedding in the brakes and doing that cleaned up a lot of the shudder. However, with you at 400 miles, you should not have the issue you are having. Just have the dealer check it out and I am sure they will address it.

 

Thanks for the input. I'm hoping it goes away so I don't have to make the trip to the dealer. If I park at the airport, it usually happens but it goes away fairly quickly.

 

Brake pads need broken in correctly, otherwise you'll get uneven transfer of pad material to the rotor, and get "sticky" spots that are perceived as a warp. Chances are, they got hot on a test drive and weren't broken in correctly. It's probably never going to correct itself. I'm on my 2nd Tundra and they both did it from the get go. They must use shitty pads and, or rotors.
Have it warrantied.
