tnbndr 100% agree with you, once the tailgate is down it’s of no use. I just leave it on for protection, I was backing into a tight spot in a parking garage and was looking at the pillar right beside me making sure I didn’t touch it and smoked the concrete wall behind me lol didn’t hurt the step at all

What does the knob do on the bottom of the Go Rhino one? The description says 3 positions but that's just holes in the 2" receiver part. It also says .065" thick steel. Sorry but that's just not strong enough. I guess if it's stainless it shouldn't rust but it seams like it's a step designed for an SUV.

I looked at getting one but if it can't extend beyond the tailgate it's useless to me. I started reading the reviews on Amazon. Some of them are made just to be a step and even then not a great step. If I was going to be using it for protection I think I would go with a forged steel one. I think I would go with the APS one over the Smitty Built one.

You would think that someone could make one that the step could be flipped over to extend it. Something like the Smitty built one. Or possibly a tube that fits inside of the 2" tube that could slide out. An extra foot would make all the difference in the world. I could use a receiver extender but then it sticks so far out that I would be worried driving down the road some idiot wouldn't see it. So that would mean putting it in and removing it each time I wanted to use it which would make it more of a pain to use than just dealing with getting into the bed without one.
