Yup, same ones. I figured harbor freight would have something disposable that was a semi-reasonable length. Instead I walk out looking like goddamn Donatello.

Here is a work update for all the fellas.

People who have been employed for 10-15+ years are now quiting. There are now more temporary employess than full time regular employees.

The true colors of the remaining original office personnel is being revealed. I expect a visit from Japan soon. They have in the past surprised the office, and cleared the office of all personnel. Hiring new from else where.

The ex-hr manager has found new employment down the road, and is vouching heavily for his "buddies" to come join him there.

People are dropping like flies.

I absolutely hate the fact that untrained, and uncertified Temps are being thrown onto airbag assembly machines. We have good quality control, but it would not surprise me if we have a Takata like recall.

I've been in a similar situation. My advice, don't wait until it's too late to find a new job. Start dusting off your resume and thinking about next steps.

I need to get on that. I was hoping to have at least 5 consecutive years in before having to run. 5 years at one job seems to be the magic ticket for getting in the door at most places.

Asking cause bored at work. I live in northern illinois where it gets to -30 degrees. Average around 10 -20 degrees. I have always used 5w30, but I have seen other 2uzfes around the world spec'd at different viscosity. Has anyone ever ran 0w30 and does anyone have evidence that toyota says its okay?

 

2-5 years are acceptable experience for a change in most places I've seen. There's a grey area depending on industry. These days, the 'lifer' employees can be seen as suspicious, just as much as the serial job-hoppers with 6-18 months stints littering their resume.

And yes, you probably should get your resume ready if your gut is telling you something bad is happening. Guts are right more often than not. Whether or not you need to start looking is entirely your call, though. At least look around once a week to see what's open around you.

If Japan does show up, it's likely to be backfiring on management more than you. They'll probably wonder what's happening that would send so many 10-15 year employees out. It's likely they'll want someone with longer-term operational experience to hang around, if for nothing more than to train others.

Of course, mgmt is probably gonna lie through their teeth and blame the departed HR person. It's important someone can tell the story from the floor.

 

Best time to look for a job is when you already have one. State/Federal jobs are pretty nice if there are any open near you.

I've been running 0w-20 in mine for the last 3 years 30k miles changed every 10k.

 

No issues? That’s somewhat good to hear. I was wondering about it since I have two Hondas which both use 0w20. It would help not having to buy different oils as a matter of convenience.

 

Nope a slight seep at the valve cover but was rectified with tightening the bolts about a year ago.

 

We're a huge company so we're always hiring. Just depends on where you want to live.

I honestly have no idea since I'm not allowed in the plant. My boss treats me great but we seem to have a lot of turnover at the plant. I'm not sure why.

Got the results from my smoke test and it's bellowing from the fuel pump assembly ring which was fine before I put the new tank in.... Now I really don't trust that mechanic. Since I'm gonna have to drop the tank should I just do a new fuel pump and assembly ring? They only sell the gasket for the attachment ring with a new pump assembly. I found one on eBay that's not too much but is this one of those parts like the ball joints where only oem will do?

 

Oh yeah the mechanic quoted me 1000 to replace the fuel pump... That's ludicrous

 

I'm not sure for the price difference I'd go with anything other than a Denso unit. An in tank fuel pump is not something you'd want to be doing twice trying to save $60.

I run 5w-30 in all my cars. No issues and well your in the same region as me.

 

Anyone drill a hole in the oil dipstick between the fill marks?

I changed the oil on the Chevy Malibu today and it is so much easier to read the dipstick as the oil completely covers the holes on the dipstick indicating the level accurately as opposed to confusing the level with any residue on the side of the dipstick tube that catches on the dipstick. I know PHM scored his for ease of use.

 

I like that idea. I too was thinking of a angled hatch or sanding on mine. When it’s new it’s really hard to see!

 

Who here runs stock sized p265/70r/16 tires? Asking because not sure what psi my tires should be at, I just go by the door stickers which is like 30psi all around. Just curious

Chalk test is the only way to really know what’s absolutely best. But 33 is what I typically run in the trucks unless I’m towing.

 

Cuious question... Since I'm just chasing the evap leak codes. Is it possible the pump is fine and I just need a new gasket and a the 20$ ring that holds the pump in place. I don't have any fuel related issues... Or should I just go for it and put all new parts. If I buy the pump assembly do I need to purchase a new strainer and fuel filter seperately and replace it all? I can find all this online but y'all are quicker and more trustworthy. (As a side note I cannot get the gasket for the ring without buying a new fuel pump as far as I can see)

Yes, it's definitely possible there's absolutely nothing wrong with the fuel pump. If it starts/run normally it's probably OK. This is just my opinion, if I had to take the tank down I'd put a new pump in.

Based on the description of the pump I linked, it comes with a new strainer, I'm not sure there is an additional filter other than the strainer, maybe someone with the 05-06 first gen can confirm.
