I have 2 Tundra 00 and an 04. Lots of questions and lots of good info found on here! Thank you !!
Today... I am wondering if anyone had any problems with the pick up running badly after replacing the starter. On these models the intake manifold has to b removed. And of course put back together , my mechanic didn't use a new gasket and I assumed that was ok.
My pick up has been running badly ( 1st time ever in 4 years and it has 255k on it) . Similar to running out of gas only way worse then dies . Completely.
I wonder if it has some thing to do with the starter replacement and what had to b put back together properly in order for success ?! Some one said it could b intake prob and didn't even know I had that work done.

Check and make sure the washers for the banjo bolt were put back in right. That can and will starve the engine of fuel.

Did any codes pop up? If the knock sensors or associated wiring got damaged it will run in limp mode.

The gaskets aren't a big deal as long as they looked good.

My first thought would be some type of vacuum leak, but you would have a Check Engine Light for a misfire or some other malfunction.

vacuum leaks can be diagnosed by spraying carb cleaner around the base of the intake, or any place else where connections are made. You can also use Propane to find a leak, but carb cleaner is easier. When detected, the engine RPM will increase momentarily.

Have you asked the mechanic to take a look since this didn't happen before he worked on it? Be nice but firm if necessary.

An old mechanic trick is to spray some carb cleaner around the intake and see if the idle picks up. If it does, it has an intake leak. Not sure why anyone would reuse a gasket, especially with 255K on it so I suspect that would be your problem.
