So I have a unique problem. My Tundra doesn't get used that often. As a result rust is building up on the rotors. The brakes and rotors were changed just before I bought the truck with what I assume wasn't an expensive set. Over the last two years the rust on the rotors has built up to the point where it started impacting stopping. So I removed the rotors and took a sanding disc to them and was surprised on just how much rust had come off. Between that and removing the rust at the ends of the pads that was starting to make them bind up I was able to get the front brakes to work good again.

I don't know what material the current pads are, possibly ceramic or semi-metalic. But there must be something more like a race pad of some sort that will be harder on the rotor and take the rust off quickly.

Since the rotors have no grooves worn into them I would like to use them up. At least nothing else down there has rust on it. I've had too many Toyotas where the 2 pins that hold the pads in place are rusted solid and the only option is to drill them out. I was able to push mine out with one finger without struggling. That's why I think this is just the rotors and pads that are low quality.

Not sure what exactly you are asking as I didn’t see a question, whether about new pads or how to stop the rust. But if it’s about pads, ebc orange are race pads that fit tundras. They also claim they will smooth out rotors so it might help with the rust.

Yea, something aggressive that will wear the rotor more than most pads. I try to drive it once a month but in the winter it usually sits to avoid salt. I'll read up on the EBC pads. At the rate I'm putting mileage on the truck it'll be the rust, not actual use, that will wear out the rotors. Even then it could be a decade before they need to be replaced.

Here a chart about ebc pads.
