Small gas tank

Hi, I travel the country with my small travel trailer and one of my main issues is that I have to fill up all the time. Anyone have any thoughts regarding getting a larger one installed? My Tundra is a 5.7 2012.

 

Find a 38 gallon donor tank and swap it in. Several members here have done it. I'm on a notify list with a local salvage yard to call me when they get in a donor Tundra.

 

transfer flow makes a larger tank. after doing the oe 38 gallon and having the notoriously troublesome anti-roll valve get stuck right before a road trip, i kind of wish i'd gone transferflow

 

When I put a 38 gallon tank in mine, I disabled the roll over valve so it would never be an issue.

 

A few here have removed or disabled the anti roll valve.Does the TransferFlow have a similar valve?

 

This seems to be the easiest and most economical route to extend range.

 

How easy is this to do? Wonder why the 38 seems to have this issue and the 26 doesn’t?

 

It has happened on the 26 too. Not very common with either tank but does happen. I don't anticipate any swap over issues since everything will be OEM.

 

I put a transfer flow 46 gallon tank on my 2010. No issue except gauge wasn’t accurate. It adds a lot of weight both because of the heavier tank and more fuel. I think they stopped making it for awhile but started again. That’s your only option besides getting a 38 gallon from a newer model tundra.

 

I have a 2016 Tundra CM, 26 gal, and original owner. I just started experiencing this issue this summer at around 35k miles. Didn’t know why it always Stop clicks when fueling every min or less! It’s a pain! Out of warranty now, I have google a DIY fix Hopefully without taking out the gas tank cuz it sounds scary or if you guys can advise that would be great.

 

There are a few threads about it if you search. Maybe one will have an answer or fix for you. I haven’t had the issue so I’ve never really looked in to it.

 

Histically topping off your tank can cause problems with the Evap canister. My not be the roll check valve.

If you have the tank out, it’s easy. It may be possible with the tank in place and removing the fill hose. You might be working blind so to speak but you could jam something in there and try and disable it, but I have not tried it.

 

actually, seems to be very common with the larger tank. the larger tank was an option, so not in all trucks and i've read probably 20 different people posting about it. most were lucky and it was available on their trucks and covered by warranty. i know of three of us that added them to 2nd gens and had it happen.

 

I have a transferflow. About 700mile range unloaded.

 

issue seems recurring the past few weeks on the forum. wonder why.
hot days ? covid ? riots ? ..can we FF 2020 ?

to OP I pack 2 5 gal cans with me on long trips. easy and cheap. but yeah a 38Gal tank would be nice.

 

Thanks just reading down through all the comments and one post with complete parts list and photos. I do like a Tundra and traveling 4-5 days between destinations with two stops a day is getting old. Appreciate the feedback.

 

Toyota makes a great truck but they really f’d up on the fuel tank

why they built a tow vehicle That Already gets horrible fuel mileage and stuck a small tank in it is beyond me
