So I dropped my truck off at 8 this morning to have a readylift 3/1 leveling kit installed. Just got a call at 3:30 saying that the spacers for the front aren’t fitting in the strut mounts up top. He told me he called readylift and they told him that sometimes the spacers come out an 1/8th to big from the casting?
And that he’s gonna grind down the areas where it’s to big.

Has any one else experienced issues similar to this? Or is this guy blowing smoke?

This is off of their instructions online.

Supposedly the spacers doesn’t fit inside the mount.

Spacers were a bad idea in the first place.

Should’ve gotten coilovers or at the very least Bilsteins.

To each their own. Let people do what they want it’s their truck. If he’s not off-roading then spacers are fine. Not everyone can afford thousands extra to get a 3” lift.

Bud, I’m all about “your money, your truck”. I know not everybody can afford the higher brands, but reality is - spacers are a bad idea regardless of off-roading. Due to a few reasons, the biggest one being the amount of preload it puts on the OEM shock. In short, one good pothole at the right speed/angle and you’ll be spending “thousands more” on top of the hundred dollar spacer you just bought. I’ve seen guys go without a problem whatsoever, and I’ve also seen guys break/ruin a perfectly good shock because of spacers (no off-roading)

As for the “thousands more” LOL really?
    Bilsteins = $200-400
    Old Man Emu = $800
    Toytec BOSS = $1100

You don’t get into the “thousands” until you get to Fox/King, the top brands. There are plenty other brands that offer an affordable price and are a better option than spacers.
It’s best to buy once, cry once. I know because I did the same thing this guy’s doing and paid for it - twice.

If youre stuck on a certain opinion and can’t stand people doing otherwise, save your thoughts. Not everyone buys their truck to be purpose built off-roader. I’m happy with a truck that gets me to from point A to point B carrying whatever I need it to.
We can argue what’s right or wrong, and bring up what he said she said about issues with their truck all day long.

As far as the issue, everything has been taken care of. Truck looks great, drives great, and got the alignment perfect so I’m happy.

    Read my post again...carefully.
Nowhere does it say I’m stuck on a certain opinion, nor do I care if someone states differently.
Let me reiterate, I’ve had it happen to me before, and don’t want it to happen to you. Furthermore, I could care less what you do to your truck as long as you have the facts.
You run more risk/chance of snapping your shocks due to preload.....that’s a FACT, ask anyone that knows half of what they’re talking about on here.
I’m only trying to let you know the risks. I know I wish I had someone tell me before I sunk needless money on spacers.

I never went off-road when I had my spacers just so you know.

Glad everything worked out, hope it serves you well.

In a top mount strut spacer there isn’t any preload being added to the shock. So if you’ve snapped a shock before. It definitely wasn’t because of a strut spacer. Yet alone one in the 1-3 inch range.
The only areas where there’s added stress, if any, is on the ball joints. And cv joints if you have them. Which I don’t.

I honestly haven’t known anyone running that setup, so can’t really give my opinion. But I know Toytec has killer customer service (great story about something that happened on here) and sell solid products that they stand behind.
I’d talk to Dave @Toytec Lifts to get a good idea.

Doubt they’d sell it if it were crap.

Has anyone had to replace control arms once you put the 3”block on the front? I’m hoping it’s just a bad alignment job the guy did and not the control arms being to small.

I bought my truck a few years ago with a spacer lift on the front end and haven’t experience any issues with it. Just ordered the 6112/5160 setup with a rear shackle, spc ucas and couple coach builder shims for the front. Will be nice to compare the difference once the new stuff is installed

I haven’t had to, but I know plenty that have had to.

some trucks need it, some don’t.
If you can swing it, I’d say “do it”. But if you can’t and have no problems with alignment....don’t fix what ain’t broken.

Bring your truck to another reputable 4 wheel shop and see if they can’t get it done....if not, start shopping.
