I read the tire thread but this is a different situation. My new tires and wheels came in but my lift hasn’t yet. Tires are 285/75R18 TOYO M/T and wheels are Level8 MK6 w/+12mm offset. I won’t be driving much and for sure won’t be doing anything besides street driving until I install the lift. I’m trying to avoid having to go back and have my TPMS removed from the current set of tires and wheels to the new set. I know they’ll rub but would it be manageable for a week or so until I get my lift in and installed?thanks.

Are you planning on turning at all? Because if not you'll be fine...

Do your 285s rub at all? I'd assume since those are basically a 34.5" tire and a decent offset you've already done some trimming/removal of plastics?

Edit: Wait, so the 285s on Level 8s are the new setup? What are you currently running? If you're stock, that's going to rub like hell.

Yeah... not enough offset to get away with that.
You would need +25 offset and no flaps or plastic to have any chance... and that might still be an issue without a lift.

Ideally you need to do the lift FIRST... then add the rolling stock.

    In this order:

Truck is on stock BFG 20” right now, bone stock truck. It’s going to ag 4 hours driving and an extra $100 if they won’t fit for a week due to my lift being delayed. Due to where I live, and the location of the tire shop, it’s an hour drive each way. Thought I’d ask about this particular situation but guess I’m fucked. Thanks.

I already had a 3” Lift when I put 35’s on. They rubbed when turning fully, so I had to get the BMC. Can’t imagine they’d work at all with no lift.

Why not just wait for the lift?

Dont forget the front end alignment.
You will scrub the tread off the new tires pretty quick if you skip or delay that step.

Being impatient will only cost you money. Its a lesson I still havent learned yet myself.

It does appear that you are correct, but if you put those tires/wheels on before the lift - I guarantee you that you'll more more fucked.

Why can't you just get a second set of TPMS and have them both programmed to your truck?

    See above. Thanks.

I hear ya! I’m in the same boat. I’ll get the alignment after I install the lift and tires.

    Agreed.

Tire shop wanted another $185 for 4 sensors!

I’m just having them dismount the current tires from the wheels, pull the TPMS’s, put plain valve stems in, put old tires back on old wheels, put that set back on the truck, install the TPMS’s onto the new wheels, mount the new tires on the new wheels and taking them home in my bed. After my lift finally arrives and I install it then I’ll install my new tires/wheels.
I want to thank y’all for saving me a PITA due to my impatience!!!
Y’all have a safe and GREAT Labor Day!!!!! :oldglory::oldglory::oldglory:

Shit just gets better! Waited at the tire place for 3.5 hours for them to tell me the factory sensors are an incorrect angle for the new wheels. They said we’ll make you a deal, 4 new sensors for $160. I said do it, I’m ready to go. Then they only had 2 in stock so I wasted 5 hours today trying to get these tires and wheels. Have to go back after they get the sensors to pay the $160 and get the damn tires and wheels. What an asswhoop this has turned into!

I wanted the stock sensors installed onto the new wheels and plain valve stems put in the stock wheels so I could use the stock wheels/tires since the new ones won’t fit until after the lift is installed.
    Does that make sense?
If I’d of known the stock sensors wouldn’t work in the new wheels then all of this could’ve been avoided. Tire shop didn’t realize they wouldn’t work either until I’d been there for 3.5 hours. Place was packed due to Labor Day travelers.

Toyota makes 2 different sensors. The angles are different. One is for steel wheels and the other is for aluminum wheels. I think. Check to see if the shop is pulling one over on you to sell you new sensors. Some have said they will work in the other type of wheel.

I’m guessing they mounted your stock tires with plain rubber valve stems? That’ll work til you get your lift and the tire shop sorts out the sensor mess. At least you can turn the wheel with stock tires.

What part isn't clear? I'm not the best @ articulating my point but I'm willing to give it a go!
My factory wheels are aluminum. The new wheels have a different contour where the sensor sits so if you tighten it down, it'll snap the neck of the sensor. If you flip it 180° it'll just flop around in the tire till it snaps off. I researched it & others have had the same issue w/the particular wheels & Toyota TPMS.

They got the new TPMS sensors in Saturday. I went to pick them up today and they hadn’t mounted any tires to the wheels. Waited another hour and a half. Asked where my factory sensors were and they couldn’t find them so they gave me the new ones for free. Loaded them in my bed and when I got home I noticed I only got 3 center caps! FML. This has been an ordeal, to say the least. Still waiting for my lift to ship 1BE21097-89F2-4AA1-B8AB-E2F13A0E1239.jpgEE9C161D-27E3-4068-8F50-C4C58F4D9D86.jpg9406584C-8EFF-4EBC-97FB-BF4FBE06F943.jpg

Why does it so often sound like tire shops are seeing things for the first time ever? They are doing what is relatively the easiest of mechanic chores (aside from changing oil) and still manage to be learning new things all the time. What a bad experience.

You should’ve seen the amount of weights they had double stacked, on opposite sides, of 2 of the wheels! I said break them loose, rotate the tire 180 degrees and try again. Went from 12+oz. on each wheel to less than 2oz on each wheels. Ridiculous. And this is Discount Tire. They do this shit all day, every day!

I have had to ask a shop to do that before as well, and it did result in less weights. I never went back to that tire shop.

I'm a little surprised to hear it is discount tires, I normally have a good experience there.

The part that isn't clear is why you couldn't wait until AFTER the lift was done to get the tires and wheels done.

Because I special ordered them to arrive the same time my lift was supposed to arrive. The tires took 8 days, the lift has taken over 2 weeks and still hasn’t shipped. I had to order the tires/wheels and didn’t want to leave them sitting at Discount, in their way, until God knows when my lift finally comes in. I could’ve left them a couple days but this lift ordeal keeps dragging on.

Supposed to be Dobinsons 3” full kit but probably end up going OME w/2614’s. Getting tired of waiting on Dobinsons.

It still doesn't make much sense to me why this was such an urgent thing that needed to be done, my only assumption is that you're such a nice guy you were worried that you were inconveniencing Discount Tire by leaving the tires there.
