Samsung and Vizios are at the top of the list. Sony is still up there too.

Hard to go wrong with a Samsung, until the LG fans come in to brag about how dark their black is.

I'm sure some labor day sales will hit. I've never liked black Friday shopping myself.

Got my Samsung 55” 4K at Fry’s last year for $450
Got my LG 55” 4K at Beat Buy earlier in the year for $800

They both perform very well, but the LG has more tech built into it than the Samsung. Picture and sound quality is the same between them though.

Costco has a 75” under 1k. Samsung I believe. And with Costco’s return policy, you can get a new one every couple years.

I just replaced a 55" Samsung last winter. Got it about 6 years ago. It still works, but the picture is dark. I replaced it with a 75" 4K Samsung from Costco. I paid about $1500 Canuckistani pesos for it iirc which I think works out to about $150 Freedom Bucks...

Wait a few months till the Super Bowl, if they have one and you can wait. I got a 50” and 55” Samsung Series 7 4Ks for under $800 together this year.

I'm looking at the LG OLED but it's around $1400 for the 55". TCL actually has some decently rated 4k sets for way under your budget with Roku built in.

LOVED my Samsungs. So much so that I bought two more this year. Sadly, they're not nearly as good as they used to be. Bluetooth connection issues, crappy remote (in their lower lines), and poor sound. The 8 series I have is amazing, the lower series (look for the ones with the remotes with tons of buttons) aren't very good. The same with my Vizio from years ago. The audio was horrific.

Just bought an LG to replace our newest Samsung. I'm curious how it does as I've never owned an LG TV, but I've heard good things so figured I'd try (my primary need is a solid bluetooth connection for my Sonos Move out by the pool). My TVs range from 50" to 65", FWIW. My 55" is the best one overall. I wish it were a 50" instead. It overpowers the area it's in.

Coatco has a 75 Samsung for about 900. I went with the 75 that is around 1300, but after the executive card points back, the $50 google play card and what have you it was more like $1200 after tax.

You can get a nice 7 series 55 for under $500.

The 55" in our bedroom was overpowering. 50" is still pushing it a bit, but works.

Just got a nice LG 50" at Costco for $299.

Has an LG but I haven t noticed the difference in black. I think many just repeat what they hear anyway. The oled is bad ass though. Pay a little more and you will not regret it. Mine is a 65" and it s thinner than my cell phone

Samsung and Sony are the most reliable and luckily also the best Picture quality I think.
Be careful though of the Samsung Remote with almost no buttons on it?
They are OK I guess if all you do is scream where there are no real"Channels" anyway but terrible for actually selecting channels if you need to.
Many of the newest Samsungs have an AppleTv built right in them which can be a huge advantage for some of us.

Sony OLED is the best overall though pricey and though they use an LG panel inside they are better than the LG TV with the same Panel too.

    I sell TVs

I'm a SONY guy and always have them at the top of my list. The 55X900H puts you right at 1K but is a great TV. TCL 6 series tv's are a great bang-for-your-buck as well.

I can't help you with specific models that are good right now but my buying process usually goes like this:

    1. Make a list of the key features and specs you're interested in. Research online and come up with a list of say half a dozen that meet your requirements.
    2. Go to a big store that's likely to have all the TVs on your list on display. Spend some time looking at all of them and figure out which one looks best to you.
    3. Start watching the price on that TV. When it goes down to something you're willing to pay, buy it.

I've never tried to buy a TV on Black Friday and I'm not sure I'd want to. I bought my last 2 TVs in early January when the stores were empty but "Boxing Week" sales were on.

As to the sound, the sound on all TVs sucks. For a bedroom, I think you'll be fine with anything. For serious viewing, a home theater system is definitely required. Mine is still a work in progress; need to look for a good powered subwoofer next.

That would be my fear with buying an unknown brand. Even LG doesn't seem to be as good as Samsung, Sharp and Sony.
