Truck is a 6 month old 2020 Army Green Trdpro. Over the last 2 weeks these tiny rust spots have starting showing up on my hood. They are very small only a few millimeters across. The paint has blistered off of two or three of the spots so far. I have an appointment with the dealer next week but wanted to see if anyone else has seen something like this before.

    Wow

that’s concerning, especially on such a new truck. Good luck op, wish I had more information for you. I would assume it would be warranties somehow. A whole paint job at the very lease I would think as well

Doesn’t look like rust. Looks more like it started on top of the paint. I’d be sure to take it in a lot cleaner than it is now to avoid them claiming (right or wrong) that it was something on the paint. Also.... what the heck is all over your truck?

Probably ash. The whole state has been raining ash for last couple days. Happens almost every year.

I have bubbling by my third brake light caused by rust. I’m in the process of a warranty claim with the dealership. My owners manual says 60mo. for the Corrosion warranty, they are saying 3yrs 36k miles for “paint defects”. Only thing in the air right now is I’m past 36k miles but barely within the 3 years. But again, it’s corrosion causing the paint defect, which I had to argue.

You’ll be fine in both of those regards cuz yours is brand new, but depending on your dealership they may try to say something got on there and try to fight you. The catch all is if anything was caused by something external or environmental it isn’t covered.

hopefully you get a decent service rep and they don’t try to screw you over. Good luck!

Yeah that is ash from all the wild fires. Can’t keep it clean for more than a few minutes. I also had initially thought it was tar or road grime. It is hard to see but the clear coat is cracking over each spot tiny spot. I’ll give updates once I take it to the dealer.

Hard to say some spots look over the paint while some look pitted in the paint. Almost looks like poor prep job prior to paint causing a chemical reaction in the top coat...

I purchased a 2021 army green TRD and while cleaning it up yesterday, I noticed I had these small rust spots on my truck. I was curious what they did for these marks? I purchased this truck New Year’s Eve. So not even 3 months yet.

Dealer said there was no way to know whether something hadn’t splashed or gotten on the paint from some other source. The spots have stayed the same and haven’t spread or gotten worse.

Thats not surprising but also horeshit. If they can’t prove for a fact that you caused it, they should fix it.
