Hello, I'm on the fence about getting a double cab with a standard stereo vs a crew cab that most have JBL. I'm a music lover who likes the music loud, but not too crazy. Any dbl cab folks out there can give me a true opinion of the sound system?

Well, most can tell you that the JBL sounds terrible for a "premium" system. I believe the non-JBL is much easier to upgrade as well. Sorry, that didn't really answer your question of whether the non-JBL sounds good, but if that's the only thing pushing you towards a higher trim/crewmax I'd just get the cheaper SR5/double cab and upgrade the sound if you don't like it. Good luck!

Both are shitty. Jbl is probably worse than non jbl.

Stock is junk. Even my wife was pushing for the upgrade. Got in touch with James @tech12volts and now she’s squared away.

I have the non JBL, nothing to write home about. Just don't be afraid to use the volume button.
The JBL version is no better.

Both deserve to be replaced with a better head unit when you are able. No need to spend extra on the JBL, not worth it.

For each their own. Non JBL but I am looking at upgrading mine if that tells you anything. @frichco228 said it best "don't be afraid to use the volume button". I have to crank it all the way up with windows down driving down highway. Too many options out there to settle for factory unit in a $40,000+ truck.

I’ve owned both. The JBL does have better sound quality but is severely lacking in bass. A sub/box upgrade with no other changes will make it adequate for a “premium OEM” sound system.

The non-JBL is best characterized as specced out so that Toyota wouldn’t be lying when the window sticker states that it has a radio and speakers.

Gen 2 non jbl sr5 here. I dumped the stock head unit, and put in a kenwood excellon headunit, along with good quality mids in all doors, (CDT ES-6). Even though I limmited the the sound freq for the mids to between 50hz to 6000hz the difference is night and day, and when I get the amps installed it will only get better. I don t even remember how the stock system sounded. That should tell you something.

Non-JBL 2018 here and I replaced the amp, speakers and added a sub. The stock HU is fine but I’d like to upgrade it at some point for CarPlay.

For a factory radio it sounds well enough, though I keep the volume around 10 - 15 so I can hear any sirens.
