Wasn't sure where to post this one.

I have Amp running boards on my 2017 tundra and have had no issues with them for the last 2 years. They are connected via OBD II port. Yesterday when I went to drive my truck all the sensors on my truck showed faulty: ABS, Brake, Blind Spot, etc. . I took it to the dealer and they traced this back to the AMP boards. They are saying that all the sensors had to be recalibrated. When they drove the truck around with out the OBD port plugged in there was no issues, when they plugged it back in the sensors were again faulty. The Toyota dealership is saying it could be a issue with the board controller but they were not sure. In any case I am looking for some feedback on what the issue may be and how I might fix it. The dealerships suggestion was to bypass the OBD port and have them tap the wiring harness.

    What do you guys think?

I would splice into the wiring harness and delete the OBD port portion. Might want to check to make sure the AMP boards work correctly before cutting the wiring.

that's what I was thinking also, I have been searching for the wiring diagrams to find what wires to splice in where but Im not having any luck.

You should get ahold of amp and see what they say about it. Maybe they'll send you a new controller, or can point you in the right direction on how to hard wire it.

i opted for the hard wire'd running boards. It wasn't too bad, jut had to run the power and tap into a few wires near the kick panels.

They will not provide you any protection and if they get hit/tweaked they will not work properly.

I'll second that, they offer 0 protection. Easily chewed up with Rocks.

I have a '17 with AMP boards. No issue in 3 years connected to the OBD port. I did need a new controller along the way, however (lights would not turn off on the boards). The new controller is a different design, but plug-n-play.

I emailed Amp support last night on this already. Looks like there isn't a customer service phone number, they are stating they are under a large backlog of cases and only able to offer support via email. A little disappointing but understandable with the COVID issues.

Just spoke with AMP support, they are sending out a new controller although they have never heard of this issue. Fingers crossed it does the trick.

I finally got this entire thing figured out. Wanted to update the thread incase anyone else has this issue in the future. Amp sent me the OBD plug and the controller. I first replaced the controller, pretty simple, unplug one and plug in the other. That seemed to do the trick for about a day. After some cursing I decided to leave the truck alone for a while until I remembered this is suppose to be fun and not a choir. Finally came back to it today and figured I would trace all the wires and look for anything that could have rubbed or caused a grounding it issue. scooting around on your back in 110 degree weather under a truck really puts things into perspective. Anyways. traced everything back to the cab and then to the OBD plug, I pulled the interior door trim out and move the wires around and found that one the crips from the OBD plug to the harness was loose and the wire came right out. I shoved it back into the original splice and plug it into the port and it worked no issues. boards drops, cords parted and the rainbows came out. I figured while I was in the this area why not test it and make sure it wasn't a fluke, so I unplugged the loose connection, within 2 seconds all the sensors lit up on the dash saying everything was faulty. Turned off the truck. cut out the old crimp connectors and put in new ones and added some shrink tubing to it, zip tied it all back under the dash and plugged it back in. Turned on the truck, no sensor lights and the boards work with out issue.

I guess some how the old plug in was sending some sort of feed back to the computer in the truck when only one wire was connected. I always assumed it was a one way communication. Plug in to the OBD port and the on board computer sends data to what ever is plugged in and doesn't receive anything back. I assumed wrong, or at least its not that way with my truck.

hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation.
