What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Just for shits and giggles hit the 4wd button while driving and it engaged seamlessly. When not moving u can hear and feel it. Almost seems like its better to engage on the fly

love it when a simple task turns into much more.

went to switch the Superbumps to the DuroBumps.... apparently broke off the welded nuts (On BOTH sides) inside the little nook of the frame... luckily I got them loose enough to fit a saw in there to cut the bolts.

but now what to do.... Thinking Of doing a nut-sert since the “welded bolts” are toasted. Only question is getting a nut-sert in there with the lower control arm in the way. I really don’t want to have to drop the LCA....

Any other fun bright ideas for my near future?

 

I feel for your pain. My idea would be a nut-sert also. I'm not sure what threads those are as I've never removed mine. I'm not even sure a nut-sert would come in whatever size that is. I'm guessing its like an M10/M12?

 

hahaha honestly. what a pain! If I wouldve known what was coming I wouldve just left the Superbumps alone lol

I believe the BumpStops are M10-1.25. I could always switch bolt to the appropriate nutsert if that wasnt an option.

These bumpstops just got more expensive...

 

Is the cavity above not accessible? I’m digging deep in my pea brain for a solution!

Ill have to double check. But from the front there is really no access. I tried to get my fingers into there from the gap near the front cam tab. No avail. There is one slightly larger hole towards the front that I may be able to sneak a long skinny wrench to hold a nut... but getting that nut into position may be quite the challenge. May just have to plasma a little access hole somewhere.... OPTION #2... lol..... I wouldnt have to move the LCA out of the way.... BONUS!

 

Riddle me this, which one are you putting it on? Isn’t there a front and rear bump(on the A arm) stop? Do you have to put it on one specifically?

 

Yes. There are 2 on each side (Driver / Pax). (One Front, One Rear) They are on the front. The rears still have the stock bumps. Ive always had the Superbumps on the Front. I really dont think it makes a different front to back. Ive thought about just switching the durobumps to the rear spots but then the fronts would be empty and would need a stock set to fill the gap.

 

I recently had to remove 1 of the factory bump stops and then I have the superbumps. I have my doubts that the factory bump stops ever actually make contact but I could be wrong. Because of that I've not been in a huge hurry to put it back.

 

Wouldn’t that be the easiest solution, to move them to the rear, after cleaning out the threads....
I don’t think you need anything to fill the gap if you move them.
On our 4runner there is only one on each side

 

And it seems the super bumps are thick enough, they would never let it come close to the other stock height one.

You can see where my LCA was making LOTS of contact with the bump stops.

 

So you put the Superbumps on the front or rear? And you left the opposite side without stock bumps. The definitely hit the stock bumps if you compress that suspension.

 

I could move them to the rear. Only issue with that is I still have to do something with the fronts. When I fully compress (the Superbumps and DuroBumps compress down to the stock bump size) I don’t want the front to have nothing to stop the LCA to hit the frame. Seems like a ticking time bomb to blow out a shock or put more tension on the LCA / Cam Tabs.

But that is my thought. If I didn’t bottom out as often as I have then I wouldn’t be too worried.

I talked to someone who drilled and tapped the hole. They had to drop the LCA out of the way to make it happen. I don’t think that is the best way because that area is very thin and don’t think there would be much thread contact. Maybe 2-4 threads?

idk. Seems like getting a nut in there magically would be the best / most efficient. I’d rather plasma a small hole than drop the LCA.

Yes most definitely. I've been in some bone rattling stuff in my truck that I had no business being in, or doing.

Like when I jumped the rail road at 60 mph...

I snapped the lower weld off the factory pass shock. Shock "body" was resting on the lower control arm. The lower circular mount was still in the LCA mount

I didn't have money for a tow, or money to fix it properly at the time. Drove her the 50 miles home on busted shocks.



Snapped the weld off in blue, and shock body was resting in the purple spot. Fun times those were.

I’m gonna make these DuroBumps work one way or another. But I’ve got some SuperBumps for sale if you want. Half of what the DuroBumps cost

Move DuroBumps to rear. Then weld on stock bumps up front...

I've got a dash cam now. I upload stuff to the lunch table thread often enough to annoy everyone here. My most recent upload was a smaller, lighter duty version of the rail road...

 

Not remembering how those all go together or if there's a spot for it. Could you fish a nut welded to a piece of bar stock in there? Be a pain to get it threaded at first but should hold fine.

 

Yeah. It sometimes binds when not engaging on the fly, especially, if it hasn’t been engaged in a while.

I use mine every other Friday and sometimes more. Don’t forget to engage 4LO. Don’t drive on street, but just press in and out and listen for the clicks engaging and disengaging at a stop.

 

I can feel the electron flow improving on the truck with all the Redundant and Extra Grounds. The positive peace vibes are flowing into the wurrld. If only we all had grounded energy, then the wurrld would not be back in a non-parallel state. The Time of Covid was better because she was healing, but now the least we can do is ground our trucks.

Might upload some footage of me passing in a definite no pass zone in the country with a sheriff sitting right there, i punched it and got to the main city roads ( i live right on the edge of the chicago suburbs where the farmland first touches a city and then from there its all city land untill lake michigan, about 50 miles east) once i got there i just kept driving fast to avoid a potential pull over lol

I should have clarified. I was tired last night. With these giant superbumps I wasn't sure if my OEM ones are putting in much work, but @Rheywood456 seems to think so.

Yes, I have the superbumps up front and the rear OEM bump(on the driver side LCA) is currently off the truck but I think you've convinced me to put it back on. Might as well since it only takes a few seconds. Keep us posted if you can tell a difference with the Duro bumps.
