Had a little too much chrome so I did some painting. Didn't feel like paying for a new grille. Call me cheap but I'm happy with the results.

Looks good. I like the color matched surround and chrome grill myself. But this looks good. A little chrome is good. But that whole grill and surround being chrome is definitely too much.

    Alot of them
How did your prep it? Chrome is a pain and can be difficult to get anything to stick. The paint on mine cracked. I ordered a new grill so that it can be painted with some other front end parts.

Looks good. I'd be interested in knowing how you prepped it and what kind of paint you used too. I've painted chrome grilles too, usually on beaters so I wasn't as particular. As mentioned, chrome (whether real or fake) is hard to prep and get paint to adhere to. The most successful grille painting I did was sanding a plastic grille, some of the fake chrome was peeling anyways, it was on an older Chevy Astro I had years ago, then used a good primer adhesion promoter then black bedliner spray. It held up really well for the next two years I owned the van. Dust tended to stick to it a bit, I should have sprayed with satin black over top. Or, I could have used rubberized black gravel guard (I've used successfully on steel wheel rims) or maybe even Plastidip. Obviously all of those will have a bit of texture, but are less likely to chip or peel, since grilles are so prone to stone chips.

I don't know why trucks these days come with so much chrome. Seems most people try to get rid of it. More people don't want chrome than want it, or so it seems. I bought a black Rock Warrior grille for my second Tundra, but that was because I preferred the shape of it better than the stock grille, and as a bonus, it had no chrome, other than the logo.

My only prepping was cleaning the hell out of it. Other than that I used Krylon Colormaxx spray paint. I primed it, then painted it, then sprayed clear on it. Since then I've washed it a few times, even used my pressure washer and have had no issues.
