I understand why the implemented the TREAD act, but I would venture a guess more accidents and deaths are attributable to drinking and driving than faulty tires/pressures. Nothing prevents a driver from driving with a TPMS warning light - I bet there are thousands of cars on the road today with a warning light on (like mine!)

My Tundra has had the lights on as long as I've owned it, I don't know what the issue is but it's not air pressure, and I don't give two shits to fix it. Just wish I could turn that annoying light off but whatever.

I get it. I really don't care either way. My tpms light was lit on my Subaru for 4 years and was lit when I traded it in. But let's not forget that enthusiasts are the minority of car owners. Most people treat their shit like an appliance. They don't give 2 shits about what's happening with their car. They rely on lights and warnings to tell them something is wrong.

I'll bet there's thousands of people that drive with a BAC over the legal limit. They haven't and won't get pulled over all while hitting curbs and random stuff. I knew quite a few of them in college.

I did a similar upgrade with wheels and tires except I was going from aluminum to aluminum wheels. The tire shop was able to swap 3 of 4 sensors and just replace the one with what ever they carried in stock. I was surprised it was only $40ish. Figured for what I had already spent on wheels, tires, and the lift the cost of sensors wasnt bad.

Of course in your case its 4 sensors instead of the one but still not a bad expense to have it done right. I've driven a lot of beaters in the past and finally being able to afford a nice truck I like to have it right if I can.

I think you'll be happier in the end.

Yeah, I will try to make the sensors work first...

I did see Discount tire wanted $60ea for the correct TPMS... and Amazon had the exact same thing for $31.44ea.

I emailed Discount tire via their "price match" link on their website and got an email stating they would honor the $31.75 price... so I at least have that in my back pocket as an option if they can't use my OEM sensors.

Pull the instrument cluster out and carefully separate the back cover to expose the circuit board.
You will see tiny LED's soldered to the board. Just find the corresponding/irritating ones and you can either try to pick them off or just mash them with a small screwdriver to kill them.

You can twist off the chime also... but be forewarned... it also makes the audible "clicking" sound when your turn signals are on... since there is no flasher in close proximity to listen to.

I did this in my Tacoma and it worked great.
Biggest thing is to keep dirt/dust away from the inside of the lense and gauges... so lat a towel on the workbench or take it inside on the dining room table.

Well... we will see how things go this morning.

I got the rest of my wheels yesterday... so now I have 4 tires, 4 wheels and a box of lug nuts in my truck.

I stopped at 3 different tire shops yesterday in my local area and nobody could be bothered to slap them together.

I also noticed the camber is out of whack from the lift... so I need an alignment also.

Instead of dealing with a bunch of hacks at the local rim shop... I decided to schedule an appointment at my Toyota dealer for 0830 this morning.

They want $100 to mount and balance and $109 to align... which doesn't seem much worse than any of the local shops... and at least they will know how to make the TPMS work properly.
Hopefully I dont get jerked around on the larger tires since they are not "OEM" size... but wouldnt surprise me if they give me crap about it.

That’s really not a bad deal. At my shop, it would be a minimum of $29 per tire mount and balance if you bring your own tires and wheels, and the alignment will be 139. So you’re getting a pretty good deal

This is what discount tire used on mine. They cloned my old steel SR wheel sensors IDs. Easy. They have good warranty as well. $60 each.

They will make it up in the parts department.
I will likely need to buy a set of 40* sensors @ $90ea.
If thats the case, at least they will be OE Toyota and should work without issues.
Didnt want to go this route, but also have little patience for screwups and aftermarket parts.

    Still at the dealer...

Wheels and tires are on and look fantastic !
Just spoke to the tech and he had the techstream plugged in to make the TPMS work.
He said these newer trucks will recognize what sensors are in the wheels and after driving a bit, all will work normal.
He said I should be able to swap back and forth between the Methods and the stock rims without issue but may need to do a "re-learn" procedure if I swap them out. (his words)
The alignment tech also said they do a bunch of lifted trucks and would get camber and toe corrected while trying to keep caster as good as possible. He said to bring it back after the new upper arms go on and he will dial it in better with more caster.

Just FYI to anyone reading this in the future...

The correct TPMS for a 2020 SR5 with NO smart key and WITH aluminum wheels is OEM Toyota part number: 42607-0C091

The Toyota tech had zero trouble making them work with my Method wheels.

    Thanks !

While I may possibly have gotten away with that... the added benefit to buying 4 new sensors is that I can leave the factory ones in the steel wheels and not have to split them apart.

Now I can have a spare set to bolt on... or a complete "ready to run" set to sell...

Good looking ride bud! Discount tire told me the same about being able to rebuild my valve stems with my old sensors if I wanted to get new wheels. Was what they told you incorrect or did you just decide to keep your old sensors in the steel wheels? Also on that part number, is that what's needed if going from steel to alloy? I've been looking into what I'd need for the swap if what I have won't work and it's a pita with all the different part numbers the new tundras have.

I had my wheels and tires mounted/balanced and installed at the Toyota dealer. They also did an alignment.
The tech said he tried to use a sensor from my steel wheels but said it did not fit properly on my Methods.
I just bought all new OEM sensors that properly fit my new rims and had them programmed there also.
Ive put 22k on the truck since then and have had ZERO problems.

Doesn’t is suck that they put these features in and all they do is get in the way. Who wants to look at a friggin light on the dash panel. All it is is a money grab to go to a dealer. They should put a switch. TPS on/off. But they don’t,they could. Gotta get an older truck. These new ones suck. To many gadgets. Can you imagine a evs.hellno not me. Just put 5he tps gauge in the wheels.
