I recently bought a 2017 1794 edition Tundra. I own a garden center and use the bed of my truck on a daily basis. Shrubs, perennials an occasional tree, pallet of whatever, you get the idea. It has the factory stock plastic bed liner. Like you guys know, it bubbles in the sun and is generally ill fitting. So I want to get a new bed liner, but I'm not sure if the spray on liners like Rhino or Line-X is a fit for me. I'm worried the spray on liners won't protect against dings and dents. I'm carefully when using my truck, but as much as I use it, it's bound to get some abuse. Are there any drop in liners that actually fit? Any other ideas? Thanks.

Get rid of the drop in and have it spread.

I know the spray in liner that Toyota does is really tough. I've had mine for 2 years and have used and abused the bed and I don't have a chip in it. I've been remodeling my home and just filled the bed by tossing in the debris. 0 issues with spray in, I'd recommend it.

I would go spray in. Doing garden center type stuff you will get debris under it (drop in), which will scratch and then rust. The cost difference is minimal actually. I also like Line X. Rhinoliner is a thicker but softer liner, more prone to gouges. Line X is slightly thinner but harder and textured. With a rhino, its easier on the knees crawling around back there. I remedied that by doing Line X with the OEM bed mat, rubber thing. You can get it for about 100 bucks. Spray in Liner is area dependent. I got the middle tier Line X for just under 700 OTD. I have heard of some doing both a spray in and drop in along with rubber mat. ultimate bed protection. Not sure how the fit would be with the drop in over a spray in. I like my spray in with bed mat. Sweet combo.

RobertD and Doctor Flex, good to hear. I was most worried with denting my bed with just the spray on liner. Sounds like you guys have some experience/abuse with the spray ons. I was looking at the X-liner website and see they offer a Platinum version now. Suppose to be 3X tougher.

The top tier liner may be what you want. It may be thicker vs a different material? Not too sure. They recommend it for contractors etc. I don't think you would hurt the typical Line X very easily, but you may want the higher level one. Not sure on the cost of that one though. One thing too, if you are loading and unloading bags of dirt, mulch etc, the line x would be the best option as the bags will slide easier. The toyota rubber may is very grippy and hard to slide stuff on it (by design).

Just thinking about it more, I'm wondering about sliding a pallet of pumpkins onto my truck. Bin usually weighs 700 lbs. Maybe that would scrape/peel up the spray on liner? It's loaded onto my truck with a forklift, but with the tailgate down. They have to set the pallet down and then pull the forks out some and lift the pallet again and slide it deeper into the bed.

This is Line X, and I don't think it will ding at all. I have had it in may trucks and have never had any issues with that! It is pretty strong and durable!

That would be a good question for Line X. You may then want to consider the spray in and drop in. Also we aware of payload capacity. There are a lot of threads about that. Be sure you know your trucks weight and any add ons that deduct from the max payload. The door jam gives the payload, with deductions based upon port installed options. Dealer or personal install of things like Side steps, bed liners, cargo mats, bed covers, heavier bumpers, etc. deduct from that payload capacity. 700 lbs should be fine, but always good to be safe.

If bed rust is a concern it sounds like you need both. The plastic liner sounds better for your needs, it sweeps and hoses out better, and slides the pallet in better.
However the paint underneath is going to take a beating and possibly rust. Line x under the plastic liner will prevent that

My local Line X guy said major damage from gross negligence isn't covered but otherwise its a good warranty.

I agree, line-x it. Then if you still want the drop in you won't worry about the issues it causes the bed if just paint underneath.

As a note, the Line X will increase the hardness of your bed. You could dent it easily with a hammer unprotected but would be a challenge to dent it with a hammer wack with the spray in bedliner. Line X has some cool vids on youtube and their own website showing how tough their stuff is.

    ^^ I second this!!!
I have the factory spray in liner on my 2014 DC..
Love my Bedrug mat and tailgate mat..
I think they now give the option of a bed mat with the tailgate mat attached..
