    2020 Tundra SR5 4x4 blackout
Hey all! We recently just bought a 2020 Tundra SR5 4x4 Double Cab, black out version which is pretty cool. It came with the standard Bridgestone Dueler H/T 255/70R18 tires.

We are trying to figure out exactly what and which travel trailer we can safely pull. I have the Air Lifters and a Sway Master installed.

I have watched tons of videos on GVWR, towing capacity, payload, etc etc and it's still confusing to me so I am trying to determine what exactly I can pull when I am looking at an RV. I cannot find a posting that summarizes clearly (at least to me, I might be brain dead lol)

For example, we are looking at a unit that has the following specs:

    Total Length: 33ft
    Dry Weight: 6,572lbs
    Payload Capacity: 2,928lbs
    GVWR: 9,500lbs
    Hitch Weight: 835lbs

Can I safely pull this with the Tundra as is? Thanks for everyone's help.

There is already a recent thread going on with this subject. Tundras or not the best choice for towing...

Look in the door jamb of the drivers door and post your payload capacity. 835 lbs tongue weight is an awful lot... after loading the trailer you’ll probably have 900-1000 lbs of tongue weight. Between the tongue weight, high profile trailer and being 33’ long it sounds like too much trailer for a half ton.

    Fixed it.

Thank you, and as an expert you are 100% correct.

For guys like me it's best to just leave it simple LOL I said it in another post when looking at Trucks it was obvious if you want to do serious towing Tundra is not the way to go..

If you asked me before and after I bought I could not tell you if it was half ton, 3/4 or (1/4 LOL) but you guys have been educating me.

So tongue weight and a WDH will eat up approx 1,000-1,050 lbs leaving you 380-430 lbs for all other cargo including passengers before you are over GVWR. Even if you can make the numbers work it will not be an enjoyable driving experience. I would try to keep your actual tongue + hitch weight under 800.

If I where you OP I would look at something closer to 5500lb dry weight range. Even though the specs may say you can tow up to 10K doesn't mean you should.. I cringe every time I see a SUV or Half ton towing some 30 long trailer down the road.. Why push the limits that much. I personally dont want to be "That Guy" twisted up on the highway.

This looks like its going to be at the top of the limits. You could make it work, and i bet the truck will handle it, but like others have said, it probably wont be an enjoyable towing experience.

Id recommend hooking it up to the truck and hitting some hills to see how it does.

30 ft+ is a lot of trailer for any halfton, let alone the one with the lowest payload capacity on the market.
