Let’s see your creative back seat movie screens for kids.

I am wanting to install a couple of screens for my kids to watch their moving picture stories on long trips.

I’ve been out of the tech game for waaaayyy to long and I want to do something cool here. What’s the hot setup these days? I would really like to mount two tablets on the back of the seat and then use a 3rd tablet in the front to push content to both rear tablets. Is that even possible?

    thanks!

Welcome to the forum. This won't help you at all, but this was the cool setup my parents had to keep us busy and safe. :) Good luck, I'm sure others with technical expertise with video will chime in.2186461180-3-2.jpg

S/O to @Squatting Pigeon, just completed the ICS rear installation, looking at your pictures, walked out, finished it in 15 minutes, extra 5 looking, at some additional, thing’s to add later.

Do you have to drill into the console or does it use existing holes?

edit - just read the description where it states the need to drill 4 holes into the console

It’s not bad at all, I didn’t use the screws that came with the rear mount, I had some self tapping screws, that fit the holes perfectly, on the pieces, that are drilled.

I have (had... later one that) two monitors like incredibillhulk has in post #4. They are driven by a mini-player + HDMI-splitter that I put under console. It's a mess, but you see nothing when the back lid is closed. The player has got its IR sensor relocated to the lid, as well as USB plug, so the kids have their remote working. That, and 1 TB SSD was enough to keep'em silent for days in travel.

Have an even nicer setup in my old Volvo, where I replaced headrests to the ones with built-in monitors from a higher trim Volvo, sniffered CAN-bus messages between DVD-player and monitor, built a controller that fakes a DVD-player, but uses a player + SSD to drive the signal. It looks all stock, only more functional.

The boys are long teenagers now and not interested in movies in the trips. Also we've got a third child and don't fit comfortably in Volvo or Tundra (it is DC) anymore. Another newer Volvo we had was dumped for a brand new V8 Sequoia. I learned whatever car entertainment I do is needed only for a few short years, so Sequoia does not have a permanent TV setup for the third kid. It's a spaghetti of wires, but everyone is happy at the end. Two weeks long trip to New Foundland was a blast.
