What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I'm sure I bought them from Ebay, and I've searched my past orders, but they don't go back far enough to see exactly which vendor I purchased them from. Sorry, but I imagine a search will bring up some possibilities. chunk.

 

I can't stand when parts do that one. I don't even have SAE tools, I've only owned one American car in the last 23 years.

 

Haha even my 88 ranger was metric! Sxt package, sway bars, factory lift blocks, 5 speed, auto locking hubs, it was cute

I bust out the SAE on my Hellwig Rear Sway Bar. Makes me feel like a real man after using mm for all these years.

 

Did you look at Suspension Maxx end links? Not sure if its any different from the moogs.

All my fords SHOs are metric. I think nearly everything is. Bout time we dropped the imperial system and went metric on everything.

Yup. I'm tired of doing conversations in my head on the fly. We have an offset bender at work we have to add percentages to to account for spring back. So I have to take my fraction, convert to decimal, multiply, and convert back to the nearest /16th. PITA.

Took the Tundra to the mechanic to pick up the Tacoma yesterday. While I was there I asked if he had time to look the truck over & find out what the CLUNK in the front end is. Previous mechanic told me 3 times he couldn't replicate clunk.
New mechanic took the Tundra. Called me in a couple hours - end links . I had him do the job. Quick Fix.
Looking forward to driving the Tundra today. It's gone clunk (now CLUNK) since I bought it. That & the air bubble in the brake system (accumulator maybe?) are the two displeasures to that truck. (and access cab. )

 

Whats a brake system accumulator? And how dare you talk bad about Access Cabs! You’ve been reported to the proper authorities.

I had a serious clunk similar to that when I would hit small bumps. I couldn't ever find where it was coming from, but when I replaced my LBJs, the sound went away.

 

While you guys were writing about cleaning out the musky A/C condenser thing, I was actually cleaning mine out not knowing it was the current topic at the time. I wish I knew about using a hose. I just used a spray bottle of soapy water and then rinsed it out as best as I could and it helped. When I would sit idling for a long time, the compressor would start kicking on and off and the air would get humid, hot, and stinky. I think the cleaning fixed it though. I even had a leaf jammed in the resistor that you take out for access.

This morning I decided I was going to replace my spark plugs again with some premium NGK laser plugs.

The process went pretty smooth and I got my plugs gapped and torqued exactly as the FSM says.

When I pulled the coils, every single one was cracked. I have the heat shrink to do a fix I saw a while back, but I didn't have a heat gun, so I have to put it off for a while.

When I got to the drivers side, I unfortunately discovered this...

That particular plus was not as snug as the others, and I'm not sure if it was because it was loose or if it was just lubed up because the valve cover seal around that plug was leaking. I ended up cleaning that coil and putting the new plug in. I'm gonna check on it down the road to see if it's dirty again or if it was just a loose plug.

 

I also checked up on my oil catch can to see if it's working. It definitely is and it made me happy. Lol

 

@Thrussn I discovered the exact same issue when I replaced my plugs. Same one too. I need to do my valve cover and spark plug tube gaskets at some point.

 

Well, after 14 years the alternator shit the bed today. Guess I’m going to HD for some 2/0 awg cable!!

 

So much better that it happened now instead of out on the trail. I'm waiting for my 18 year old unit to go. Are you going with a Denso reman?

 

No shit right?! Ive been witnessing a low drop in voltage lately and even had 13.4v on a long downhill after my latest trail run. My buddy just ordered a Denso reman 150a for a sequoia, gonna do the upgrade. All in should still be cheaper than a shitty reman 130 from an auto parts store.

 

If I have to pull my valve covers, they're going to get powder coated. I need to look into how awful it is to pull the covers.

 

when i did mine, i had one look exactly like that on driver side also.

 

Bite the bullet and replace all your Ignition Coils. They’ve done well all these years and are tired and out of Ohm Spec probably. Your engine will run smoooovvvv afterwards. Better MPGs and more women than you can handle, too!

 

If they can ship sliders with this much protection there is no reason that other company can't do the same with those leaf springs. I'm impressed.

 

Bought and hauled a half pallet of Zoysia sod this morning (about 1k pounds) . I have some areas throughout the yard that need some love.The Tundra handled well!
