What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Got the wiring ‘loomed’ up with 3 layers of electrical tape. Heavy duty Telephone Tape on the first layer followed with two Medium Grade layers. Nice and tight.

The LED tailights are PILOT brand, picked all these LED’s up @ Walmart. No problems w/ them. I like them. Had them on my previous vehicle.

 

Yeah. Go buy yourself some Amber Incandescents LongLife Sylvanias for the turn signals. They are bright and last a long time. Less expensive than LED, too. Otherwise you need to buy some special relay for $60 and install it.

 

Helped a friend empty out a 20x40 shop this morning. With the back window down I tied in six 16' deck boards that really cut down on the tailgate overhang.
That back window is probably my favorite thing about the truck; as crazy as that sounds...

 

Probably too late but, put the end of the wires in a vise (or vise grips clamped onto a table) and put the other end in your drill. You can twist the wires together and make it easier to tape.

 

Today's project is moving back my shell to inspect for rust and clean it up. Hasn't been moved in over a year.

 

Yeah too late. They had a twist already. I taped them and then did the Pliers twist on one end with he other end clamped under the tool box lid. This made the tape goo bind into the weave better.

 

Yesterday I did my brake master cylinder that went out going to Borrego Springs on the 4th of July. Then took her off-roading. For over 348,000 miles she’s one reliable truck!!!

 

Anyone know where the turn signal blinker relay is located? Slot#? Owners manual only has fuse locations... need to buy a Chiltons or Hanes manual ASAP.

I have a 2002 and mine is located right above the parking brake pedal, next to the interior light under the dash. Put on your 4 way flashers and you'll be able to hear the clicking to help you find it.

 

Didn't do anything to it today...unless I wash it later but, I did buy a small notebook to keep in it to keep track of maintenance and mileage.
I used to be religious with my maintenance intervals but with meeting my wife and having a kid the last couple years have been wild. So now that I have a tundra I plan to keep it like it should be kept. It was the first vehicle I drove on the road and heck it could be my son's first in 15 years or so....if I maintain it.

 

3rd light mended?

Eventually, that one quit on me. Replaced it with the

$90 Diode Dynamics SmartTap CF18 LED Flasher Module

High dolla smart tap flasher relay recommended by @empty_lord.

I bought a set of those brake lights, and put them on Pop's nissan. They're pretty cool. Press the brakes the lights are solid briefly, flash 3 times, and then return solid.

Doesn't have to be the DD one Novita LM449 or any parts store flasher that says it's rated for LEDs will work. I bought mine from Napa.

 

Ive had my shell off to do some work on it, but Im loving it off right now. I bet your truck looks sweet with it off.

Put in LL incandescents like I suggested above. They are cheap and very bright when new. Eliminates the need for this Relay.

That works too. I used the LED flasher on my old Jeep with flat fenders. The Tundra has LED rear turn but I stuck with incandescent for the front so I didn't have to change the flasher.

 

I like the smart taps functions, I just need to somehow grease the stalk, I end up clicking it to far instead of just tapping it.

 

Any flasher relay that says "LED flasher" is good to go. The $10ish lasted me just under 2 years. Thats the only reason I upgraded to the diode dynamics.

 

On most vehicles and the 2002 Tundra I use my stalk in a slight engaged position without clicking it fully when high speed lane changing. Almost like a smart tap but you control the signal for as little as you want.

 

Yeah I usually can, I think the hot desert, has dried out all the mojo inside the stalk, no mojo; no gogo

Maybe I’ll pop it open tonight while I’m at my side job waiting for the vacuum to pull down. I’m doing night jobs so I don’t melt!

 

Just verified voltage range was in spec for MAF from wiring harness.

Auto hold function is SUPER sweet for a guy like me. Not an extra pair of hands in sight. Lol Take your reading and then DMM will continue to show reading. Supa nice.

I looked all over the internets for a generic plug. Couldn't find the right things. Finally broke down, and ordered from the stealer.

 

Finally put a little effort into the Tundra today.
Washed it

had some energy left so dried it which includes under hood, door sills.... Once the hood & doors are open it's keep going until the energy runs out.
radiator/ac condenser had too much silver specs for my taste. Got the flat black Rustoleum spray out. Rad. WTH, trailer hitch looking ugly. Tail pipe looking bad, ...railing on front steps looking bad too.



anyone have a spare rear mudflap? Tailpipe splotchy because it's mid drying.

 

found the radiator cap was twisted closed, but wasn't push & twist to lock-ed. Explains the coolant spittle on battery, rad, hoses....

Spittle all cleaned off. Wiped down all black plastics. Saw some corrosion on battery so removed terminal ends & cleaned everything up. Sprayed with battery terminal no corrosion goop.


Painted the tie down hooks, but did it in place & a real crap job so no sharing pics.

Used chrome polish on the rear bumper. Got rid of that surface rust at the bottom edge & at the dents. Shiny Chrome.
