Whats your thoughts on the little stick on convex bubble mirrors that attach to your OEM mirror surface?

I also hear that 2005-2015 Tacoma trail ridge towing mirrors may fit with some manipulation as those are the ones I’m going to buy soon and try. They are identical to the dodge mirrors

I did the dodge mirrors about 5 or so years ago. I’m pretty sure the thread I used was on TS but it looks like all the pics are gone.

Looks like these may be an even better adaptation than the dodge mirrors due to having the Toyota mount plate. I’d love to see install pics if you decide to get them.

I would love a set of tow mirrors if anyone found a good solution that doesn’t look like a square peg in a round hole.

Problem is that the trail ridge get quite a bit of bad reviews. I may go with another cheaper option off Amazon for the same model Tacoma and see about figment

Yeah. Plus tow mirrors look like butt anyways. I’d never put any Dodge or Ram crap (except my sweet tailgate assist:D) on my truck, either.

Per the overall conversation, I’m not sure why we need a large tow mirror on our trucks as they can only tow such a light load. I done mucho towing with the regular OEM mirror with the convex mirror stickies on both sides. Work really well. I don’t need to see behind my trailer when driving forward. Just need that side blind spot opened up thats always there tow or not.

Anyways, when backing up just make sure you sight the spot before backing up into it. I’ve had 18 years of success without incident except that one time I backed into a Fords tow mirror and ripped it off.

    Edit: Spellings. True Stories.

Tow mirrors are required for loads wider than the truck. Doesn’t matter how heavy it is.

I tow a 27’ TT and you can’t beat a good set of tow mirrors.

Yeah I don’t have that problem as what I tow is not wider than the truck.

Good info on the requirements for tow mirrors, as I did not know this.

I don't know that its necessarily a requirement but when you cant see whats next to your trailer it makes towing that much more difficult. I have used the clip ons and they just flat suck, the next thing i tried was a set that seemed promising - they had a housing that slid over the stock mirror but they were too small for my liking, after a lot of thread searching I found the "Dodge Tow Mirror Upgrade." I have been very pleased with my mirrors, they have been installed for 5+ years now. I still have my stock mirrors boxed up. The best part about the tow mirrors is that I was able to get power and heated ones. They do buffet but are far better that any other option I could find. The brand I ended up using are Kool Vue. I hope this helps in the decision making process.

I know these aren’t tow mirrors, but they’ve helped me tow or not. No need to twist your neck (taking eye off front road) to see the blind spot. Allows you to keep facing forward. The mirror lets you see almost up to your perpendicular where then your peripheral takes over.

I’ve used these pictured round ones before and liked them. Had to replace them as a drunk backed into my pass side mirror and knocked it off. Ended up trying the oblong type mirror and it works well, but critical placement on the body mirror is key. Might switch back to the round ones. Been using both styles for about 15 years. Well worth $5-10 cost.

Too small PHM. I did just order some Akkon Tacoma dodge style mirrors so I’ll see how they fit and work at speed once they get here AND I actually have the time to install at least one of them

thanks. Can you give some better pictures of the mounting plate? Did you do anything with the wiring so the heat works?

If I can get some free time this weekend I’ll pull off the inner door panel and get picture of the mounts and harness. My truck already had heated mirrors so it was just plug and play for the heat. I had to cut the power harness off of my factory mirrors and do some testing to get the mirror adjustment directions right.

No need to pull them off. Just a closer shot of the mirror and door coming together was all I wanted to see.

Those tow mirrors look nice for tow mirrors in standard mode. When they go big ear’d its a deal killer. I get the reasons for them being large. Standard mode they look pretty good. Thanks for the pics.

Yeah, they don’t go “big eared” unless I’m towing my TT or an enclosed trailer that I can’t see around. One of my pet peeves is the Dodge guys that think they need to leave them up all the time. Side note on the size. I didn’t realize just how much of a difference they made for me until I drove my dads ‘06 that has the dinky little Toyota mirrors.

I don’t mind to do it. Plus it will give me a chance to do a full write up on the install with pictures.

Im wondering if I wanna mess with trying to get the heat to work as I only have powered mirrors but the heat would come in handy for the winter time

I’ve looked into doing this for those occasional St. Bart freezes. Requires lots of work with special relay and timer/etc. Doable, but not worth it unless wiring is already there or you are in on the North Pole.

Those were my thoughts too. Being an SR5 I’m sure I don’t have the wiring anyways

Mines an SR5, do you have rear window defogger? I’ve heard of the mirrors being tied into that circuit.
