Most of us don’t bite......hard. And it’s all in good jest for the most part. I think I walked in at the tail end of marbles disputes.
I feel like most of the 1sties are more hands on than other gens, so it’s a little easier to communicate, or jerk a chain now and then without getting all; my chicken coop is bigger and less poop filled than yours!!!!!(exactly; what?! Who cares?!)
I’m not good at documenting or having clean hands, but I will always try to help out someone that’s going thru what I just did or whatever the case may be. Sometimes other people see things differently, you might have a different experience or view point and boom, problem solved!

 

Turn out this year has been pretty low actually. I think it's the combination of a cruise instead of a walk and the fact that there's been a pretty significant increase of infections of this crap locally has really kept people at home

I added a poor man's steering wheel controls to my 05 DC SR5. Its a cheap bluetooth media remote that I pair to my phone and that attaches to the steering wheel for basic Play/Pause, Volume+/-, and Next/Previous track selections. LOL.

I can't 100% tell, but I'm betting a 2p30A with #10 should be fine.

Couldn't stand my jank city wheel well boxes in my camper conversion. I'd made them out of wood and MDF, they were uneven, falling apart, and too complicated, so I demoed them and finished the new solution yesterday.


Adhered fancy boi sound deadening foam on top of the Noico while I was in there (and yes, I know typically full coverage = "diminishing returns").


Reflectix and foil tape vapor barrier. So much easier with spray adhesive.


Finally leftover vinyl flooring pieces with premium Loctite adhesive finished the covers off.


It's not perfect, but it they will be inside storage compartments, so my OCD is quenched.

As you can see from the photos, the furring strips (wood to attach walls/ceiling too) are coming along, albeit quite slowly due to meticulousness.

 

Is that laminate flooring? In a truck bed? That's awesome!

 

I think you are going to want a larger breaker than a 30. A(wire size)

So a 2p35A w/#8 is the minimum, but it's hard to find a 35, so I'd use a 40.

Pulled trigger on these speakers. I’ll be in these door panels one last time (for good I hope) after having them open at least 5-6 times in two years for various sound proofing and lighting projects.

‘Operation Turning Zzzzzttanese’ objectives:

1) Perform front window rattle fix.

2) Install new speakers.

3) Dry fit and run wiring for sideview mirror turn signal strips.

 

For you HVAC guys here, I know nothing about it all but I’m getting a new furnace and A/C unit Monday since my old house system is overdue. Assuming I won’t notice anything difference except maybe a little more efficient system...

 

Something like that! It's called vinyl sheet flooring and comes in a roll. Underneath that is plywood and an inch of insulation. I'm converting the bed into a nice camper.

 

Don't suppose you have something like this that shows all of the other grounding points for the '06? Thinking mostly about chassis grounds body-to-chassis and engine-to-chassis.

I need to run around and re-check all of my grounds after I had a no-start after alternator replacement, and to confirm this voltage fluctuation with my gauge isn't related to grounding somehow.

 

Also, a request: Your write-ups are great and pics are worth a thousand words, especially when written all over. Please take pics. Those are two items on my list: Fix rear slider window rattle and fix front door window rattles. I handled Noico install on the outer door during speaker installs many moons ago, but wasn't aware of the rattle fix at that time. I plan to Noico the rear cab wall later this year when my subs and amp install happen and may fix the rear slider rattle (if I find a fix) at the same time.

Awesome, I just yoinked a copy. This is super helpful. Obviously they're not nearly the same as a FSM, but I scored two Chilton's manuals at Goodwill last year, now I can't find them (we have a lot of books). Hoping they didn't get donated right back out. My "better 3/4" is a little OCD on cleaning, whereas I'm more utilitarian "neatly organized chaos" sort of guy.

 

No problem, my organized chaos lacks the neatly part so I spend far too long looking for anything.

 

I bought a new Kenwood Excelon DDX396 head unit, Kicker 46CSS674 component speakers for the front, Kicker 47KSC6704 speakers for the rear and a small

$200 Clarion XC2410 400W Peak Ultra Compact 4/3/2 Channel XC Series Micro Class D Marine Amplifier

Clarion XC2410 50 watt amp.

Also got some Noico 80 mil sound deadening material along with some Noico Red 150 mil insulation.

Finally got everything installed I put the 80 mil on the outer door skin then covered that with the 150 mil insulation. Next on the inner door skin I did the same thing. Also did the back wall. 2 boxes each did 4 doors and the back wall. I have about 8 square feet of each left over. I used a lot of product (over kill)

The sound system sounds great and the doors have that solid (thud) sound.

I am so pleased with it that I will be doing the roof and the floor. It's a lot of work, thanks to those of you that have done it, I got the courage to tackle the project.

The only thing I would have done different would been going to 6.5 speakers instead of 6.75. Install would have been a little easier. I went thru Crutchfield, very happy.

 

The acoustic isolation work makes quite a difference to the sound quality. The further you dig into it, well it’s another rabbit hole. I finished my stereo install Thursday night and was jamming in the cab the next night. It sounds great. I went with the kenwood excelon dmx76s. Decent amount of tuning control from these units.

 

It is posts like these that pulled me quickly out of lurk mode. Such a wealth of knowledge here and it does seem many do the work themselves which gives us noobs a chance to learn.

 

I am new here and plan to post and lurk regularly. I have little mechanical experience working on vehicles, but no time like the present to learn! Huge Shout out to Pinay for posting the bulb chart under Best (1st) GEN Info Dump. I truly believe this vehicle could last a lifetime and is one of the most reliable overlanding pickups available. This is why I bought mine from CO with zero frame issues and immediately had it professionally coated. Anyways, today I started my light replacement. Going to work my way from rear to front. Tackled: License Plate, Brake and Turn Signals.

 

The FSM is the key for diy. Wish I had it when I bought my truck originally. I like pictures and hard copies when doing the work. A few days prior to working I’ll print up the necessary papers and have them ready on the work bench.

 

Did those Sylvania Amber Turns give you hyperflash?

Never seen those ‘Flasher Stop Lamps’ before. How are those doing?

I used the Sylvania's in my license assys and like them. Also, have them in the reverse and 3rd lights Cargos. I kept the turns and stop lamps incandescent for fear of hyper flash.

I see your 3rd Light is not working?

 

I'm starting to see those flashing brake lights around town. I find them annoying, but they are attention getting in a distracted world.
Along the same line, i dislike hyper flash - but it is attention getting, so perhaps it's actually not a bad thing?
