Happy 4th! Massive amounts of huge fireworks going off. For hours. Never have seen anything like this here in Aurora and I've been here 16 years. Fireworks were officially banned........Still going on. I'll leave it at that....

    Happy 4th y'all!

I wrote this today as I watched the series "Washington". Not sure why (bit of a History buff)...but here it is.

It's an unfortunately seldom occurrence when we celebrate the 4th of July that we remember it wouldn't have been possible without aid from France.

One of the key French actors in this theater of War was Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette. He felt that America's revolution was a noble cause and was so emphatic about it that he came to the States at the age of 19 green to warfare yet ready to help. Despite this he received a commission to Major General in the Continental Army and eventually traveled back to France to beseech them to help us win our independence.

Throughout his wartime in the States, which included the Battles of Brandywine and Yorktown, including the harsh winter at Valley Forge, he grew so close to George Washington that he named his only son Georges Washington and asked to be buried beneath both French and American soil. When he died at the age of 76 his son sprinkled soil from Bunker Hill over his coffin and in 2002 Congress made him only the 6th foreign national to be given honorary American citizenship.

To this day he is considered the "Hero of the Two Worlds".

The world has changed a lot since the days of Marquis de Lafayette and George Washington but one thing hasn't changed and that is our endeavor to be free of tyranny...foreign and domestic.

The Patriotic people of California celebrated Independence Day defying their Governor's decree... I love it!

It was the most insane 4th of July that I’ve ever witnessed here. And I’ve witnessed most of them going back alooong way! It felt defiant! :oldglory:

This was almost identical to our view from the hills of Whittier. Could see from Malibu to Santa Monica to Newport Beach. Started at sunset and didn’t stop until ~3am!
