Lexus credit card key works in 2020 Tundra

TLDR: the Lexus credit card key works and CAN be programmed for your smart key equipped Tundra. I got mine to work on my 2020.

Parts list (from the Tacoma thread; not confirmed for Tundra, but my key works):
-Key part number: 89904-53511 or 89904-53512
-Make sure Key says Denso model 14CBB or FCC HYQ14CBB
-Works in through 2020 with smartkey.
-Buy an extra Battery, CR2412
-Emergency Key (slide in mechanical key) part number: 69515-30350

Abbreviated process:
1) Using Techstream connect to vehicle as Lexus LX570 3UR-FE
2) Open up immobilizer/Smart Key ECU
3) New key can be added via Smart Key registration following the wizard. Note that if you'r using a previously assigned key, you'll have to reseed key via a locksmith or DIY via a 3rd party website like weboctopus.nl. This process is a bit more complicated, so I'll save that for a dedicated post below.
4) Follow-prompts until registration shows complete.
5) Done!

No more carrying a set of keys/keyfob. I just keep this in my wallet, so I'll never forget my wallet and/or keys anymore.

Do you lose the use of one of your key fobs if you do this? I think Toyota has a limit of two keys programmed for a vehicle.

 

No, you can program up to 5 fobs.

 

I have a full function scanner that may be able to program the key to my 2020 Tundra. I have a question about the model of the credit card key. Are the part numbers you gave mandatory or does the credit card key just have to say "Denso model 14CBB or FCC HYQ14CBB"?

 

Honestly, I’m not sure. Those part numbers were from the Tacoma world thread. My key has both of those listed, but I couldn’t tell you if other models or frequencies will work or not.

 

OK cool. I am looking forward to hearing from people who were able to erase a fob before it is programmed. I am going to double check my scanner to make sure it has the key programming function. I am pretty sure it does.

 

Any of you guys with a programmer in the Southeast? Preferably the Gulf Coast of Alabama, Florida, or Mississippi?

 

I erased my 2 fobs using the smart code erase option. It took 16 mins for the process to complete in Techstream. The programming of the 3 keys was fast and simple afterwards.

Tried two different PN for credit card keys on 3rd gen no luck

 

Old thread, but just adding some info for anyone considering this. I just did this to my 2020 Platinum.

I ordered PN 89904-53512 from a Lexus dealer online and programmed it to the truck myself in under 10 mins. I used a cracked copy of Techstream (V18.00.08) and a crappy Mini-VCI USB cable I got from Amazon a few years ago.

Couple pointers:
1) I connected to my truck as a 2020 Tundra, just had to select the "Radar Cruise" and "Smart Key" drop downs. No need to connect to it as an LX570
2) Connect to the Smart Key ECU in Techstream from the "All ECUs" Tab.
3) Go to "Utility" section once you are in the "Smart Key ECU" screen.
4) For some reason in V18.00.08 its called "Smart Code Registration". In previous versions I believe it was "Key"
5) Make sure NOT to choose the "Classic" registration, this is a more complicated way to complete the process. The one that simply says "Smart Code Registration" is a simpler process that prompts you for each step.
6) Follow the prompts on the screen and your new key will be working in a few easy steps. Just make sure to read all the instructions on screen completely before starting.

Also you can actually program a total of 7 keys to the truck. The counter showing 5 in Techstream is the number of open slots (5 open + 2 Factory programmed=7). When ordering my key, the dealer insisted on having a VIN prior to shipping it. Two minutes on Autotrader and I had a VIN from an LX570 to give them.

If anyone is having trouble finding the CR2412 batteries used in the credit card key, Digikey or Mouser are a good source. Amazon is riddled with fake batteries and the only local place I found that had them was the Lexus dealership (at $15 each).

 

Excellent information for Toyota owner to share such privilege knowledge. Just don't understand why Lexus and Toyota will not share this simple technology between the companies. As you my know, majority of Lexus cars today utilize regular unleaded gasoline and only a few of their high-end autos burn premium. Why buy a Lexus when Toyota cars use the same engines, cheaper gasoline and cost less for similar vehicles. Yes, the interior is much epic, massive, and stately with lots of sound deadening insulation over the daily Toyota diver. I am utilizing the LX570 10 spoke rims on my tundra which give the vehicle show room quality. At most Toyota dealerships, if you order parts for your Lexus they will not guarantee your parts nor a refund.

 

I need to do this. Always fun to start new projects. Any good source for a cheap key
