2018 Tundra TRD Sport

This was a big reason I went with a tundra over the Tacoma.

 

so we have CONFIRMED that these headlights will fit right into 2016s without major electrical retrofit?

I like the new body matching grill and front end overall, not a fan of the hoodscoop I had one on my 14 4runner trail and it did nothing for me.

I like Toyotas conservative styling, that's what they are pretty much known for. Personally I think gmc and ford are going overboard with all the chrome and leds everywhere, and don't even get me started on dodges nasty new front end. the 2014-16 dodge ram, 2014-16 gmc sierra are pretty nice looking trucks but just don't have as solid or smooth of a feel as the Toyota.

 

Judging from people's response, this new update will be well received. I remember when 2014 came out. The most commonly used adjective was 'fugly.' Then people's taste seems to change slowly over time. I remember even a few years ago, people that were trading in for new style were sort of sheepish. I was one of the few who actually liked the new style.

I like the hood scoop and the headlights. I was looking to buy a Pro (when the color I like comes out), but this new one is a possibility. I just have to change out the suspension.

 

They really go through great lengths to disguise the new look. You would think they would keep it in a closed area if they didn't want anyone to see.

 

The new headlights are a pretty big upgrade over the current ones. Hopefully they are plug and play but I doubt they will be.

 

Im willing to bet they will be. It's much cheaper for Toyota to produce if they make it plug and play with the existing connections. Even if it is a different connection for some reason, it would be easy to wire them up.

 

Headlights are gonna cost too much $$$, I'm more interested in the TRD front swaybar to match the rear. Take my money Roman.

 

For real. As soon as the headlights are available to the public, I'm driving to tijuana to sell a superfluous kidney to sling Roman some duckets.

I hope they are plug N play too , but I don't see anyone upgrading platinum led headlights to thier SR5's much due to not being plug N play, correct me if I'm wrong.

 

We are supposed to start trial runs of the new parts in the plant the next week or two. I'll see if I can get the low down on the plug and play possibility.

 

I wouldn't count on the headlights being inexpensive and plug and play. The f150 guys are spending $1500-$2000 to upgrade to factory leds on lower trim level trucks and they require a different wiring harness.

 

I would not spend $300. I do not see the attraction with the LED strips.

 

UPDATE:

I just watched the first 2 trial trucks roll off of the line.

Good news: as far as factory lights are concerned, the new LED head lights and fog lights are pretty much the bee's knees in person. The new grill looks good for a refresh, but the good scoop adds another horizontal line to the front of the truck that is not needed and makes it look too busy.

The Bad News: The LED lights are NOT plug and play. Much of the electrical system is new, including a new engine harness and new head light and fog light harnesses.

Will be getting these head lights and fog lights, but now it's going to cost that much more. Almost worth considering a trade-in upgrade when you take the cost into account.

Bummer. Well, cutting a connection and doing the math the figure out what ballast I need to add still isn't too hard of a project.

Well I will wait and see what next year brings, if I decide to keep this one trade..

 

Plan B it is. Well it's probably not worth the $$ to upgrade, so anyone recommend a good LED healight bulb, headlight revolution seems high in price.

Can it still be done with custome wiring or does it need the harness? I have a 2014.

I have to agree with this, I just traded my 2014 Silverado in this week for my 2017 Tundra. My Silverado was a newer platform then this truck but gosh this Tundra drives so much nicer. The Silverado driving experience was clunky at times, delays in throttle response. I feel its a lot due to the cylinder deactivation and trans programming to squeeze mpg. Now it did do that, I could pull 24mpg highway unloaded and my trip to get the Tundra I was loaded and got 23.6. Same trip back I was able to pull 17.2 in the Tundra, city so far I'm at 14.6 average where my Silverado was 15-16, not bad so far for an "outdated" truck against the newest engine tech.

I do miss my rear bumper steps though, I'm in and out the bed of the truck all day.
