13 hr day at work... in 90 degree humid heat... booked 27.. but man I’m wiped

I'm assuming that is 27 independent jobs for "the books."

 

Tbelt and water pumps on a tundra and a 97 avalon. Oil pan on said avalon. And a warranty transmission pan ona. Sienna (pays 9 hours for some reason... took all of an hour to do)

 

27 hours btw. Not 27 jobs

 

Kill it while you can, good on you. I haven’t done one of those days at work in a few years. Haha weekends or side jobs is a different story, I make more on side jobs than regular work

 

side jobs pay me much more.. its rare for me to do t-belts in a week.. let alone a day. tundra t-belt is like a 5 hr job for me... the old 3.3 and 3.0? done so many of them it only takes me like 2-3 hours to do them...

 

I pray that the oil pan on my truck never starts leaking because from what I can see, it would be a 50 hour job for me. Have you ever done one on a 1st gen Tundra?

 

What is the tundra TBelt quoted out for in terms of hours?
Is it mainly friends and referrals that you do side jobs for?
I have one old McDonald’s connect that feeds me work here and there, I charge what I want because I don’t think I’ve had one call back with him, other than when I said it was junk but I’d try, and he gets bent over from the local jabronies. Other than that it’s mainly my close family, that I don’t really charge, but I still say no to some of them even. I’ve got kids now so I’d rather be goofy with them than have to work on someone’s AC or fridge, I try to help when I can, but Sometimes I have to say no!

 

my side work is pretty much a few familys that trust me.. not a whole lot.. but theyre big familes and keep me busy.

t-belt with water pump on a 4.7 is an 8hr job according to the books.

Management Dept (wifey) & I are trying to decide whether to keep her Lexus is350C or sell it before I start dumping $$ into it. Right now we are looking at the 4runner V8 or the FJ Cruiser. What issues between the two?
We want a 4X4

 

rust.. but your down south. they also like to eat front axle boots up.. other than that theyre reliable.

 

A 4runner has always struck me as a more practical vehicle than the FJ. FJ always struck me as a mall crawler vehicle even from the factory.

I have no experience with either. Bear that in mind.

 

The FJ is a serious off road vehicle, very capable.

I like the 05ish 4runner V8 but I hear that rust is an issue. The FJ she likes but I really like V8's

 

the FJ has the same rust issues. its just a shorter 4runner. both are solid vehicles. the v8 is obviously amazing. but the 4.0 is also a great engine

 

I'm keeping my truck and I really want a Landcruiser/LX470 but she is uncomfortable with the size. That leaves me with 4runner and FJ. I have to measure the interior of the fj and see if I can fit a blow up mattress

 

I’ve never driven one, but I bet a v8 4runner is a rocket ship!
I’ve had no big issues with out 5th gen w the 4.0, it’s no v8 but if you make it bark, it moves

 

That is what I'm thinking. V8 4runner should be solid performer.
The FJ special edition caught my eye though

 

I’ve heard great things about the FJs that are rear locked, very capeable. Don’t get an FJ if you have kids. My 2wd 4runner has been places 4wd soccer moms with Kdss would be scared to go. Both are great, both can be found with lockers(not the 4th gen v8) but the v8 come with center diff lock, haha again it’s a toss up!

Started with self etch primer.
One coat of semi-gloss black enamel.
One coat of flat black enamel.
One coat of crystal clear top coat.

The bigger, rounder piece still needs to dry. Probably get some crystal on that one in the morning

There's another option. Build something crazy

Starting with a 5.0 engine and shove it in an FJ or a newer 4runner. Florida doesn't have emissions testing

 

not much faster. but alot more low end grunt

 

I guess it comes down to gearing

 

236 hp in early 4.0s and 270 in later duall VVTI 4.0s.

vs the 286 of the 4.7. 4.7 has more torque though. same transmissions in 05+ 4runners
