Checking nuts on new suspension

Our torque guys are spoiled somewhat. They cal and repair all mfrs. They frown on the "cheaper" brands that most of us have. My Harbor Freight one is actually OK for my use. Kobalt is apparently total crap with them. So many of the torque wrenches are made by same company too. The fact that you get a calibration certificate with the Tekton is a plus.

 

Yea, I would buy that. I use paint pen when I’m building substations. No marks on mine that I can find. I don’t know about the thread locker but I guess it can’t hurt.
I disagree with the new vehicle never needing a retorque. It is wise to check and verify and Toyota specifically calls for retorque of the prop shaft quite often and they have no pen marks..

 

I only referred to suspension, and thread locker is called for on almost every suspension fastener. The 4 nuts you found loose are supposed to have it. The only retorque called for in my owners manual are the prop shaft bolts. The tighten chassis and body bolts is just looking for loose stuff(notice no drivetrain or suspension). Definitely not saying don’t retorque stuff, but if installed properly, it is probably not needed. I tighten my LCA cams as maintenance also, but they don’t use thread locker.

 

I believe you. I am pretty damn sure I have no locker on my threads and they were not torqued. I wish I had the ability to do all my own work because I trust no one to do the job to spec every time.

 

Mainly the top bolts on the 6112’s! Do I just tighten by feel! I have some loctite should I use it on them or no!

I'll do it without and loctite type stuff, so the 4 bolts at top 46lbs and one shock long bolt bottom 100lbs!

Also the rear 5160's top and bottom bolts, would you know their torque!

Next tire rotation I may ask the dealer to re-torque the front end bolts I used when installing!

So how often does the suspension need to be tightened?? I know about the 500 miles but how often after that??
